The Pati Valley 4-day trek runs through the heart of Chapada Diamantina National Park in the state of Bahia, and many hikers rate it as the best hike in Brazil. Start in the village of Guiné, climb to the village of Aleixo to a gorgeous lookout, and spend the nights in the homes of families who live inside the valley.

Cover several kilometers on foot, cool off at the Funis Waterfall, explore the cave and summit of Morro do Castelo, and choose between the Calixto Waterfall or the quieter Poço da Árvore, among other breathtaking natural attractions that make the Pati Valley hike so unique.

Day 1

Vale do Pati Viewpoint / Funis Waterfall

Welcome to Chapada Diamantina! At 6:30 AM, a transfer brings you to the village of Guiné (the trailhead) where your guide briefs you and checks your equipment. The Pati Valley 4-day trek begins with a one-hour climb up Aleixos, rewarded with mountain views, then crosses flatlands, streams, and the area known as Gerais do Rio Preto to the Vale do Pati lookout.

After a picnic at Lajeado Waterfall, cool off at the Funis Waterfall (30 m) and its natural pool, then reach the Igrejinha homestay for dinner and a campfire on your first night.

Day 2

Morro do Castelo Cave / Cachoeira das Bananeiras

After breakfast, the day’s adventure is the steep 2-hour climb to Morro do Castelo, leading through lush forest into an impressive cave. With torches, navigate to a lookout with panoramic views over the entire valley, then picnic on the summit.

The descent mixes rocky terrain and quiet forest paths down to the Cachoeira das Bananeiras for a refreshing swim. You spend your second night at Mr. Wilson’s house, a cornerstone of the experience that has hosted travelers since 1997.

Day 3

Calixto Waterfall / Poço da Árvore

After a hearty breakfast you choose between two options. For more challenge, head to Calixto, a mix of uphill and downhill through a forest of big trees and rocky ground, rewarded by the Calixto Waterfall (40 meters). For a chiller day, Poço da Árvore offers a natural pool and waterfalls surrounded by greenery and canyons.

Either way, you head back to your homestay and watch the sunset turn the canyons to gold before your last night in the valley.

Day 4

Cachoeirão Lookout / Return to Guiné

On your last day, choose between the challenging Prefeitura’s Rift, with a unique view of Morro do Castelo, or a gentler climb. You then reach the Cachoeirão viewpoint and its 260-meter vista; after rain you may see over 20 waterfalls cascading down the cliffs.

After a final picnic and a dip in the Cachoeirão pool, cross the flatlands of Gerais do Rio Preto and descend Aleixo’s Trail, arriving in Guiné around 4 PM for the transfer to Lençóis.
