Welcome to Chapada Diamantina! Today is the start of our 4-day adventure along the breathtaking Pati Valley hike in Chapada Diamantina. At 06:30 a transfer will bring us to the village of Guiné, the starting point of the hike. Here your guide will brief you on the trip, give you instructions, show you effective techniques and assess your hike equipment.
Start your Pati Valley hike with a 1-hour climb up Aleixos. You’ll be rewarded with incredible mountain views as you climb. The Pati Valley hike continues through flatlands, small streams and more mountains in the area known as Gerais do Rio Preto until we reach the Vale do Pati viewpoint, a picturesque representation of this breathtaking valley.
After taking in the spectacular views, we head towards some beautiful waterfalls. We’ll stop for a picnic at Lajeado Waterfall before continuing to Funis Waterfall. This 30-metre waterfall has a natural pool at its base – the perfect place to refresh and recharge.
We then head to the Igrejinha homestay, where we’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and gather around a campfire before settling in for our first night.
Duration: 7 hours | Distance: 5,75 km | Elevation gain: 528 m
Waking up during the Pati Valley hike is truly magical! After a good night’s sleep, we’ll enjoy breakfast and get ready for today’s adventure: the climb to Morro do Castelo.
This 2-hour hike, although steep, rewards us with a journey through a lush forest and leads to an impressive cave. We’ll use torches to navigate the cave and eventually reach a viewpoint with breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Pati Valley.
We will have a delicious picnic, enjoying the summit of Morro do Castelo, we will have its surroundings with more beautiful views to contemplate and take the perfect snapshot.
We’ll make our way back to the valley floor, the descent will be a mixture of rocky terrain and quiet forest paths until we refresh and chill out at Cachoeira das Bananeiras.
As the day draws to a close, we’ll make our way to Mr Wilson’s house, a cornerstone of the Pati Valley hike experience. Having hosted travellers since 1997, his family, now led by his children Nara and Wilton, continue the tradition of warm hospitality and delicious home-cooked meals. It’s here that we rest and enjoy our second night in the heart of the Pati Valley
Calixto | Duration: 6 hours | Distance: 7,58 km | Elevation gain: 291 m

First up, if you’re looking for some challenge and sweat, we can head to Calixto. This part of the Vale do Pati hike offers an awesome mix of uphill and downhill hikes through a forest filled with big trees and lively rocks, rewarded by a stunning 40-meter-high Calixto Waterfall.
If you’re more in the mood for a chill day on your Vale do Pati hike, Poço da Árvore is for you, and offers a natural pool and waterfalls, all surrounded by lush greenery and canyons.
So, whether you’re up for adventure or relaxation, head back to your homestay, contemplating a beautiful sunset turning the canyons of the Pati Valley hike into gold, setting the vibe for our last night in the valley.
Duration: 9 hours | Distance: 16,48 km | Elevation gain: 740 m
Start your last day of the Vale do Pati hike with a delicious breakfast with your host family. After saying goodbye to our friendly host. On the way to our next highlight of the day, we have two different options, depending on the weather and group fitness: the challenging Prefeitura’s Rift, which offers a unique view of the Morro do Castelo, or simply contemplate the beautiful mountains of the valley on a less challenging climb.
After walking our last few kilometres, we arrive at the Cachoeirão viewpoint. This place offers a breathtaking view from 260 metres up. From here you can see another unique view of the valley. If it’s been raining, you may even see over 20 waterfalls cascading down the cliffs, making this part of the Pati Valley hike even more special.
After our last picnic in the valley and a refreshing dip in the Cachoeirão pool, we head back through the flatlands of Gerais do Rio Preto. Here you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Continuing the Vale do Pati hike, we’ll make our descent via the Aleixo’s Trail, contemplating its beautiful sunset, arriving at the village of Guiné around 4:00 pm. From Guiné a car transfer will take you to Lençóis, ending our unforgettable Pati Valley hike adventure.

During the Vale do Pati hike in Brazil’s Chapada Diamantina National Park, accommodations primarily consist of modest home stays operated by local residents. These establishments provide essential amenities, including comfortable beds and shared restroom facilities. Although the settings are rustic, they highlight the community’s genuine hospitality, often complemented by traditional Brazilian meals. While the facilities are simple, they provide comfort in a remote setting, ensuring travelers are both immersed in the heart of the national park’s unparalleled beauty and the rich cultural traditions of the local community.
Though serious accidents in Vale do Pati are rare due to its clearly designated trails and its frequent visitors, all of our guides are extensively trained in first aid and preventative measures. If an accident results in minor injuries, we have the option of using mules to exit the valley. However, in more critical situations, the Fire Department is immediately contacted to rescue the injured person, transporting them on a stretcher to the Chapada Regional Hospital in Seabra. To ensure communication in emergencies, our guides are equipped with long-range radios, and local homes have access to satellite internet.

Our guide was exceptional in telling us the stories from the valley and guide us to the important places before the other big groups, so we really felt the uniqueness of being all alone in these magnificent spots - even though there’s not many tourists yet in the park, this was really special to us. Right from our initial interaction with the PlanetaEXO team. Our guide is an incredibly knowledgeable person with a deep understanding of the places we hiked. We were a family of 6...myself, my partner and 4 kids. He tuned into our needs and dynamic very quickly. He was a true guide in many ways. The food was excellent and the accommodation very welcoming and authentic. The views were spectacular! We experienced some challenging conditions at times with heavy rain. He knew when it was coming and when it was going to clear and knew all the natural shelter spots. I would highly recommend this company. All the guides are great. They have a real comraderie. Our guide is also a great musician and singer with an endless list of Brazilian classics! But you wouldn't know unless you asked. He is a true talent but super humble. His English is very good. A person of high emotional intelligence and a deep love for Chapada Diamantina that is obvious!
