Juma Amazon Lodge sits deep in the Brazilian Amazon, about 100 km southeast of Manaus, the capital of Amazonas. This 5-day jungle lodge tour from Manaus fills your days with forest hikes, night boat safaris, wildlife watching, canoeing, and piranha fishing, all led by experienced local guides who read the forest like a map.

This Amazon jungle lodge is comfortable and fully integrated into nature, with 20 bungalows built on stilts and nestled in the treetops. Set in a preserved, secluded stretch of rainforest, it splits its rooms between forest and river views, so you wake with the canopy or the Juma River at your window.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival / Meeting of Waters / Night Boat Safari

  • Transfer Manaus → lodge~100 km · road + river · ~3h

The staff pick you up at Eduardo Gomes International Airport (MAO) or your Manaus hotel between 6:30 and 7:30 AM, then transfer you to the lodge by van and boat. En route, you witness the Meeting of Waters, where the dark Rio Negro and the sandy Rio Solimões run side by side for kilometers without mixing.

After settling into your bungalow, climb one of Juma’s observation towers, 31 meters above the treetops, for a panorama over the canopy.

Following dinner, a boat heads out into the dark to spot frogs, caimans, and other nocturnal creatures while your guide shares the forest’s after-hours secrets.

Day 2

Jungle Hike / Canoeing / Tree Planting

The day opens with a jungle trek in the Amazon Rainforest: where local guides teach survival techniques, point out medicinal plants, and share the tricks that keep them at home in the forest. In the afternoon, canoe the igapós (flooded forest) and igarapés (narrow creeks), watching for birds, small mammals, and insects along the waterline.

As part of Juma Amazon Lodge’s sustainability work, you also join its reforestation program and plant trees that will grow for generations. It is a small act with a long half-life, but it is one guests remember most.

Day 3

Sunrise / Sumáuma Trees / Piranha Fishing

Wake before dawn to watch the sunrise over the Juma River as the forest stirs to life. After breakfast, the group walks to the sumaúmas, giant trees that reach up to 45 meters and live for centuries, while your guide explains their role in the ecosystem and in Amazonian culture.

Later, it is time for recreational piranha fishing, with the guides showing the best spots and techniques. It is hands-on, low-key, and genuinely fun.

Day 4

Forest Hike / Community Visit

The fourth day begins with a hike deeper into the forest, followed by a barbecue lunch prepared out in the natural scenery. In the afternoon, visit a caboclo family to learn about their traditions, daily life, and the role riverside communities play in keeping the Amazon standing.

The evening is free to enjoy the lodge: swim in the river pool, read in the hammock house, or simply listen to the forest from your balcony.

Day 5

Departure

  • Transfer lodge → Manausarrive ~12 PM

After a hearty breakfast, say your goodbyes and wait until the staff transfer you back to Manaus. You should arrive in the city around noon, in good time for an afternoon or evening flight home.
