The Amazon Jungle Lodge
Located on a remote and unspoiled peninsula, surrounded by the river, 118 kilometres (73 miles) southeast of Manaus, the Amazon Jungle Lodge tour offers an experience covering a vast area of 7,000 hectares (17,300 acres), which has been fully preserved. Its design and construction are entirely eco-friendly, and the architecture is inspired by the building techniques used by the indigenous people of the Amazon River to construct their homes. The perfect combination of rusticity and sophistication creates a unique and memorable experience.
The lodge’s common areas are constructed in the same style, on stilts and covered in babaçu straw. These include a restaurant, a small bar, a comfortable hammock area to relax, and a terrace with stunning views over the river. The swimming pool is a unique feature of the lodge, designed for sitting under a floating terrace protected by underwater railings. The pool uses water from the river, allowing visitors to swim in complete safety. The area around the pool is perfect for relaxing in the sun, and visitors can also enjoy refreshments at the small bar nearby.
The 31-metre-high tower is a new feature at the lodge. It allows visitors to observe the beautiful Amazonian landscape from above. The tower offers panoramic views and is ideal for birdwatching, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the region’s unique natural environment.
Accommodations
The hotel has 20 comfortable bungalows, each with a superb view of the Amazon. These include 6 forest-view bungalows, 10 river-view bungalows, 2 larger family-friendly bungalows, 1 panoramic bungalow and 1 Juma bungalow, the largest one. Each bungalow is equipped with a private bathroom, solar-powered hot water systems, comfortable hammocks and ceiling ventilators, perfect for spending a peaceful evening in the Amazonian wilderness, which tends to be colder than Manaus. The Family, Panoramic and Juma bungalows are also air-conditioned for added comfort during your stay.
During your Amazon jungle lodge tour, you can explore predefined itineraries, led by a bilingual guide, which can be modified according to weather conditions.
Meeting of the Waters
On our way to the lodge, we stop for a break to see the amazing Meeting of the Waters, where the murky waters of the Solimões River merge with the dark waters of the Negro River. The two rivers, each with their own speed, temperature, colour and composition, flow side by side for several kilometres without blending. Eventually, they merge to create the mighty Amazon River.
Canoeing
Our canoeing tour offers an immersive and intimate exploration of the waterways (igarapés and igapós), an adventure that can only be experienced with canoes. As you journey through these waterways, you will be serenaded by the enigmatic sounds of the forest.
Night Tour
We go on a nocturnal tour to see frogs, birds, and, most importantly, caymans. Our guide uses his flashlight to spot these creatures, adding an exciting element to the tour. The sounds of the night are just as impressive as the star-studded sky.
Sunrise at the river
In the early morning, we will capture the fascinating change of colours in the sky and the sounds of the waking birds. Our guides provide binoculars to make this experience even more memorable and enjoy plenty of opportunities for birdwatching.
Jungle Hike
During this insightful jungle hike, our expert guide will introduce us to the diverse wildlife of the Amazon. He will point out various plants and describe their practical uses, many of which are edible or have medical benefits. To protect the forest, the trails used for the exploration are regularly altered.
Piranha Fishing
We will hop on a motorboat to fish for the infamous piranha and other Amazonian fish. Fishing is more convenient during the dry season as the fish cannot hide in the flooded areas as they do during the rainy season. After fishing we stop to admire the beautiful water lilies. As we return to the lodge at sunset, we will be greeted by some of the most breathtaking views the Amazon has to offer.
Visiting local inhabitants
On our Amazon jungle lodge tour, indigenous locals will share their knowledge and demonstrate the process of making manioc flour, one of the region’s main exports and economic drivers.
Visiting a Sumaúma Tree
We will visit a giant Sumaúma tree that stands for about one century. The Sumaúma tree is known as the largest tree in the Amazon, both in height and diameter, reaching heights of up to 40 metres.
Tree Climbing
This activity is run by Amazon Tree Climbing, a renowned chartered company recognised for being the pioneer of recreational tree climbing in Brazil. Tree Climbing offers an amazing opportunity to explore the canopy of the Amazon’s largest trees. This tour is only available upon request prior to travel and must be confirmed by email.
Overnight in the Jungle
After dinner, we take the guests on an overnight jungle stay, where they will sleep in hammocks. Sleeping amongst the trees and listening to the sounds of the nearby animals is a unique and unforgettable experience.
Extra Tours and Services
Some tours are not part of the regular itinerary of our Amazon jungle lodge tour but can be booked as extras. We also offer additional and personalised services: In collaboration with a floating platform in the Negro River, we offer close interactions with pink dolphins which are very friendly and it is possible to swim with them; Lake Janauari, a prime area where we can find a significant number of water lilies; lunch in the restaurants by the river; for those guests celebrating their honeymoon, we can offer a private breakfast inside the bungalow, fruit baskets, champagne, and a private sunset tour accompanied by wine and cheese.
