Here’s what our guests say about PlanetaEXO’s Amazon cruises from Iquitos!

Iquitos Amazon tours by river: which ship and which season?

Iquitos is the world’s largest non-island city, unreachable by road, housing 491,000 people at 104 m elevation between the Amazon, Nanay, and Itaya rivers. Accessible via air from Lima or by boat, it prospered during the 1880–1914 rubber boom and now serves as the hub for northern Amazon tours in Peru.

The main highlight is the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, a 20,800 km² area of protected flooded forest and black-water rivers home to river dolphins, manatees, giant otters, and jaguars. Our Iquitos Amazon tours transfer guests 95 km south to Nauta, where the Marañón and Ucayali merge to form the Amazon River.

These rivers are navigated by two cruise vessels offering full-board service, naturalist guides, a diverse range of forest-based activities, and entry fees for the reserve. The Amazon Aria Cruise accommodates 32 passengers in 16 spacious, water-view cabins, while the Delfin Amazon Cruise (Delfin I or III) features suites with private terraces, complimentary house drinks, and kayaking excursions on the Yarapa River.

Operating year-round, an Amazon river cruise in Peru adapts to the water levels. From November to June, water rises 4 to 7 m, letting skiffs glide through canopy-height flooded forests. From July to October, lower water opens longer jungle trails and ideal piranha fishing. The weather remains hot year-round, averaging 27°C (81°F) with 2,815 mm of annual rain.
