FAQ – Wild South Pantanal

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit the Pantanal is May to October, during the dry and intermediate seasons. Water levels drop, animals gather around remaining lagoons, and wildlife spotting becomes easier, making it the peak time for safaris.
From November to March, the wet and rainy seasons transform the landscape into a lush aquatic world. Boat tours are ideal then, and bird activity is intense, but roads can be muddy and mammals harder to see.

Pantanal North vs South: Which one should I choose?

The North Pantanal (Cuiabá–Porto Jofre) is the world’s best place to see jaguars, especially on boat safaris along the Cuiabá River. The region also offers excellent birdwatching and is perfect for photography-focused travelers.

The South Pantanal (Campo Grande–Miranda/Corumbá) is more diverse in activities, including horseback riding, walking safaris, and community experiences. Wildlife is abundant, though jaguars are harder to see.

Is it possible to see jaguars in this package? What wildlife will I see?

Jaguar sightings are possible but not guaranteed in this region. You’ll likely encounter capybaras, caimans, giant anteaters, tapirs, marsh deer, ocelots, macaws, jabiru storks, and over 630 bird species.

Pantanal or Amazon, which is the best place to see wildlife?

The Pantanal is the top choice for wildlife spotting, with open wetlands making animals easier to see. Jaguar sightings are more reliable, and large mammals and birds are observed at close range.

The Amazon offers a different experience: denser rainforest, river exploration, and incredible biodiversity, but spotting wildlife is harder due to the thick vegetation. Many travelers combine both for the ultimate adventure.
