Welcome to Chapada Diamantina! How about starting the day by visiting the mountains?
You’ll start your adventure at 6h30 a.m. and head for the village of Guiné, the starting point of the Vale do Pati trek. Here, your guide will be ready to give you information and instructions about the trip, as well as show you the necessary techniques and check that everything is in order with your trekking equipment. This guarantees extreme care and safety throughout the adventure.
The trek begins in the Vale do Pati with a 1-hour climb to Aleixos. Take advantage of this moment to be dazzled and enjoy the incredible view of the mountains. You’ll then continue on your way past plains, small streams, and other elevations known as Gerais do Rio Preto, until you reach your final destination at the Vale do Pati viewpoint, a picturesque and breathtaking sight.
Now it’s finally time to cool off! After leaving the viewpoint, you’ll head towards the incredible Lajeado waterfall for a lovingly prepared picnic. Next, you’ll visit the Funis waterfall, 30 meters high, and with a natural pool at its base, it’s the perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the end of the day.
To round off the first day, dinner is guaranteed at the Igrejinha family home, where a delicious dinner and a bonfire await you to round off the first night with a bang.
Duration: 7 hours | Distance: 8.23 km | Elevation gain: 660 m
Good morning!!! Ready for day two?
After a hearty breakfast, it’s time for today’s adventure: the climb up Morro do Castelo! With a challenging two-hour hike, you’ll be led through a lush forest straight into a real cave.
With the help of flashlight support you will have the opportunity to navigate through the cave to a lookout point with breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Vale do Pati trek. Isn’t that amazing?
To make the most of it, you’ll have a delicious picnic to enjoy on the summit of Morro do Castelo, so you’ll have the most beautiful views to contemplate and take the perfect photo.
After the meal, you’ll return to the bottom of the valley, the descent will be a mixture of rocky terrain and quiet forest trails, until you reach the Bananeiras Waterfall, for the relaxing and refreshing moment of the day.
We’ll end the day at Mr. Wilson’s house, one of the pillars of the Vale do Pati trek experience. Hosting travelers since 1997, his family, now led by his children Nara and Wilton, continue the tradition of warm hospitality and delicious home-cooked meals. This is where you will rest and enjoy our last night in the heart of the Pati Valley.

We’ve reached the last day!
After a coffee at the friendly host’s house, we have two different activity options for you to choose from. Depending on the weather and the physical fitness of the group, you can do the challenging Fenda da Prefeitura, which offers a unique view of Morro do Castelo, or simply contemplate the beautiful mountains of the valley on a less challenging climb.

From the breathtaking view at 260 meters high at the Cachoeirão lookout point to the more than 20 waterfalls cascading down the cliffs, the Vale do Pati trek captivates you with its beauty and exuberance.

The Pati Valley is a year-round destination with varying experiences per season. The Dry Season (May to October) offers blue skies and cooler weather, especially in the colder months of June and July; yet, waterfalls might not be as full. The Rainy Season (November to April) boasts lush vegetation, flowing waterfalls. Peak visitation occurs in July, August, and on national holidays. During the Vale do Pati hike in Brazil’s Chapada Diamantina National Park, accommodations primarily consist of modest homestays operated by local residents. These establishments provide essential amenities, including comfortable beds and shared restroom facilities. Although the settings are rustic, they highlight the community’s genuine hospitality, often complemented by traditional Brazilian meals. While the facilities are simple, they provide comfort in a remote setting, ensuring travelers are both immersed in the heart of the national park’s unparalleled beauty and the rich cultural traditions of the local community.
Though serious accidents in Vale do Pati are rare due to its clearly designated trails and its frequent visitors, all of our guides are extensively trained in first aid and preventative measures. If an accident results in minor injuries, we have the option of using mules to exit the valley. However, in more critical situations, the Fire Department is immediately contacted to rescue the injured person, transporting them on a stretcher to the Chapada Regional Hospital in Seabra. To ensure communication in emergencies, our guides are equipped with long-range radios, and local homes have access to satellite internet.

He’s super knowledgeable about the flora, fauna and the culture in the whole region. He even made pineapple skin tea on top of the Mirante in front of the Castle! Don’t forget to pack an extra small backpack for day trips (not in the list but essential). All native houses provide blankets and towels. Some are better and others simpler (but all had wine!)
