Day by day
📍The departure time from Campo Grande is flexible and can be between 9 am and 2 pm
Your trip to the Pantanal begins as soon as you land at Campo Grande airport. We’ll pick you up in a comfortable, air-conditioned car and take you straight to the Aquidauana Pantanal. This journey is just a small taste of all the impressive nature you’ll see on your trip to the Pantanal. Once you arrive at the lodge, you can relax and get ready to explore.

Once you’ve settled in, it’s time for dinner at the lodge. You’ll need to fill up on food as your first activity on the Pantanal circuit is imminent: a night safari. As night falls, you’ll climb into an open 4×4 vehicle, ready to spot the animals that only come out at night.
With a bright torch to guide us, we’ll drive through the wild Pantanal in search of nocturnal creatures. Don’t forget to look up: the sky will be full of stars, with not a city light in sight. It’s a perfect end to the first day of your trip of the Pantanal.

- Campo Grande ➞ Aquidauana: approximately 135 km, 2 hours by car
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge. You’re about to embark on a full-day expedition into the Pantanal. The first activity of the day is a photographic safari. Go aboard an open 4×4 vehicle that will take you through the varied and breathtaking landscapes. Get your camera ready: you have to be prepared to capture the animals and landscapes that make this Pantanal wildlife trip so special.

After capturing some pictures, you’ll return to the lodge for lunch. But don’t get too comfortable, another adventure awaits. This time it’s piranha fishing. With the help of a local guide, you’ll try your hand at piranha fishing in the region’s freshwater lakes.

Not only are these piranhas exciting to catch, but they are also part of the local Pantanal cuisine. Or, if you prefer, they can become a snack for the caimans you might see near your boat. Whichever you choose, this is a must-do activity on your trip to the Pantanal.

Kick off your day with a tasty breakfast at the lodge, fueling up for another exciting day on your Pantanal wildlife trip. First up is a Horseback Ride. Don’t worry if you’re new to riding; the friendly horses and comfy saddles make it easy for everyone. Our local guides and cowboys will help you explore the stunning Pantanal landscapes, from open fields to marshes and forests. It’s a highlight of any Pantanal Tour that you won’t want to miss.

After riding through the beauty of the Pantanal, it’s back to the lodge for some lunch. But the adventures of your expedition are far from over. Next up is a Boat Ride on the Aquidauana River. Put on your life jacket and get ready to see some of the animals that call this river home. Look out for birds, mammals, and even reptiles as you float along.

The trees that line the river add even more beauty to this part of your Pantanal Tour. As you glide through the water, you’ll get another chance to connect with the amazing nature of the Pantanal. From horseback riding to river cruising, this day offers an unforgettable Pantanal wildlife trip.

Start your last day of the Pantanal wildlife trip with a hearty breakfast. After filling up, you’ll head out for a morning hike through the forest. It’s a great part of your tour to get close to nature and maybe even spot some hidden wildlife. Enjoy the peace and quiet as you walk, ending your stay in this stunning location.

Next, you’ll head back to the lodge for lunch. It’s your final meal on your Pantanal Wildlife trip. After you eat, it’s time to check out and say goodbye to the Pantanal. Your adventure may be ending, but the memories will last forever.
Finally, a private, air-conditioned transfer will take you back to Campo Grande. As you leave, you’ll realize just how special your Pantanal trip was. You’ll go home with not only photos, but also experiences that you’ll treasure for the rest of your life.

There’s no minimum age. However, depending on their age and size, children may not participate in horseback riding activities.
Elderly guests with some kind of reduced mobility might not enjoy the Pantanal excursion to the fullest.
Children up to 10 years old have a special rate. Contact us for more details with pricing and conditions.
The itinerary previously mentioned is a suggestion. You will be provided with an official schedule upon arrival at the lodge, which can be altered due to weather conditions, logistics, or the specific needs of each group.
Other important information:
- Each activity lasts around 3 hours.
- Activities and lunch for check-in and check-out days depend on arrival and departure times.
- Activities generally begin early in the morning and in the late afternoon, as wildlife sightings are scarce between 11 AM and 3 PM. During this time, you can relax and enjoy the lodge’s facilities.
Yes! All scheduled activities are entirely optional. If you prefer to skip a specific excursion, simply let your private guide know during check-in. They will be happy to suggest alternative outings and ways to enjoy your time, depending on the lodge’s daily schedule.
The activities are led by the lodges’ qualified teams of professionals, which is a key characteristic of Pantanal experiences. In the South Pantanal, activities are more varied and may include land safaris, boat trips, horseback riding, hiking, piranha fishing, and night tours. Some lodges may also offer additional activities not listed in this itinerary.
We also rely on local operators to organize transfers and provide bilingual guides, ensuring a more comfortable and seamless experience throughout the trip.
When you book this tour, your group will join the lodge group and have your own private English-speaking guide included in the package. The lodge group consists of 6–10 people, with a maximum of 6 people for boat trips and up to 10 people for other activities such as 4×4 safaris and horseback riding.
Subject to availability and additional costs, activities can also be arranged privately
Yes, you can book the tour without a private guide, which lowers the overall cost of the experience. However, the lodge guides do not speak English and share their attention among all members of the group. If you prefer not to have a private guide, you will need to plan your activities at check-in, based on the schedule and availability during your stay.
We include a private guide as standard in the package due to their English proficiency as well as their support with logistics and overall assistance throughout your stay at the lodge.
Yes, solo travelers can book this tour. However, please note that while the daily activities are shared with a group, the transfer to the Pantanal is private. Due to the complex logistics required to reach the region, the transfer cost is high and must be covered entirely by you.
Additionally, if you wish to hire an English-speaking guide (highly recommended for international visitors), you will also be responsible for that full cost.
Yes, you can customize the length of your stay. We recommend your trip last at least 4 days, but you can add as many days as you want.
Another option is to combine a visit to the Southern Pantanal with the Northern Pantanal. Keep in mind that these two regions are located in different states (Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul) and are accessed via Campo Grande (South) and Cuiabá (North). The distance between them exceeds 700 km. The most practical way to travel between both destinations is by commercial flight.
Yes, our local partner can easily accommodate specific dietary needs (such as vegetarian meals or food allergies). Just make sure to note these details on your registration form prior to your trip so they can prepare accordingly.
We recommend arriving in Campo Grande by 1 PM at the latest. Traveling at night can be dangerous, so arriving in the morning or even the day before would be ideal. This way, you can start your journey to the lodge early and have time to enjoy some activities during the day.
How to get there?
- Starts at (first day): Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul (airport or hotel) – Departure from 9 AM to 2 PM.
- Ends at (last day): Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul (airport or hotel) – Flexible arrival (according to your preferred schedule).
- Campo Grande ⇌ Pantanal: up to 195 km (approximately 3-hour drive).
Land at Campo Grande International Airport (CGR), then head to your accommodation. The 4-day Pantanal tour includes round-trip transfers.
Traveling in comfortable vehicles, PlanetaEXO’s local partner will take care of transporting you to the Pantanal and back to Campo Grande—whether to the airport or a hotel in the city.
Yes, PlanetaEXO can arrange your transfer on your final day to Bonito. We can also handle the initial transfer from Bonito to the lodge, provided we are notified during your booking (may be subject to additional costs).
PlanetaEXO has an exclusive tour covering both destinations. Discover it here: 5-Day Pantanal Bonito Tour in Brazil.
- North Pantanal (Cuiabá; Porto Jofre – Mato Grosso): the world’s best place to see jaguars, especially on boat safaris along the Cuiabá River. The region also offers excellent birdwatching and is perfect for photography-focused travelers.
- South Pantanal (Campo Grande; Miranda/Corumbá – Mato Grosso do Sul): features more diversity in activities, including horseback riding, walking safaris, and community experiences. Wildlife is abundant, though jaguars are only seen in a specific area.
👉 Learn more: North or South Pantanal – Which One Should You Visit?
Pantanal tours tend to have a relatively high cost due to the limited availability of lodges, remote logistics, and overall infrastructure. In addition, we work only with carefully selected partners to ensure a high-quality experience for our travelers. PlanetaEXO keeps around 15% of the tour price, with the remainder going directly to local operators.
The Budget Pantanal Tour is a more affordable option, but it operates with shared groups and simpler facilities. Group sizes are typically larger (around 12 people and up to 15 during high season), and activities are shared. The lodge is also larger (with 20+ rooms), including shared dorm options, which results in more crowded facilities. It does not include private guides, and accommodations tend to be more basic.
The Pantanal has four well-defined seasons:
- Rainy Season (November and December): High humidity, growing rainfall. Vibrant green vegetation; great for birdwatching and boat trips. Average temperature: 23°C to 28°C (73°F to 82°F).
- Wet Season (December to March): High humidity, intense and frequent rainfall. Flooded plains; great for boat trips and safaris. Average temperature: 24°C to 29°C (75°F to 84°F).
- Intermediate Season (April to June): Lower humidity, less frequent rainfall. The water levels start to drop; great for birdwatching and safaris. Average temperature: 22°C to 27°C (72°F to 81°F).
- Dry Season (July to October): Low humidity, low rainfall. Dry land; great for hiking, horseback riding, and safaris. Average temperature: 20°C to 26°C (68°F to 79°F).
👉 Learn more: When is the Best Time to Visit the Pantanal?
Yes, the Pantanal is known for the amount of mosquitoes, especially during the rainy/wet season (November to March), since the flooded areas create ideal conditions for mosquito reproduction, but the incidence decreases from April to November. The use of insect repellent is indispensable in any time of year, as well as pants and long sleeves during safaris.
Please notice: The mosquitoes of the Pantanal do not transmit diseases, but they cause annoyance with their itchy bites or reactions to allergic people.

The probability of spotting a jaguar on this tour is very low. This excursion takes place in the Southern Pantanal, which is not the primary region for jaguar tracking (though a sighting is never impossible!).
The Pantanal is spectacular and remains one of the best places in the world to spot wildlife! During your safaris, you will be looking out for incredible species like hyacinth macaws, toucans, marsh deer, giant anteaters, capybaras, tapirs, caimans, and much more.
Please note: Since this is a completely wild environment, wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. What you see will depend heavily on the season, the daily weather, and the animals’ natural, unpredictable movements.

Citizens from certain countries require a visa to enter Brazil, while others are exempt under specific conditions.

The Brazilian government doesn’t require foreign tourists to be vaccinated, but the Ministry of Health advises that visitors arrive in the country with a complete vaccination schedule for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, rubella, and measles.
