Pantanal Jaguar Safari in Porto Jofre, Cuiabá

Brazil
3 Nights·4 Days

Overview

This Pantanal Jaguar Safari in Porto Jofre is a 4-day expedition into Brazil's Northern Pantanal, departing from Cuiabá and built around the world's best-known location for spotting jaguars in the wild. The route follows the Transpantaneira, a 145 km dirt road that ends at Porto Jofre, on the banks of the Cuiabá River, in the state of Mato Grosso.

Three nights are spent at a Porto Jofre lodge, with two full days of private boat safaris on the Cuiabá, Piquiri, and Três Irmãos rivers — the corridor where jaguars are seen almost daily during the dry season. Along the way you can also expect to see giant otters, capybaras, caimans, anteaters, and an exceptional variety of birds.

Transfers, all meals, all activities, and a private English-speaking guide are included throughout. Lodge selection is flexible and can be tailored to budget and comfort preferences.

Set out at sunrise on the Cuiabá River. Return to the lodge for breakfast and a relaxed midday — the hottest hours are quiet on the river, and most travelers use them to rest at the lodge.

In the late afternoon, head back out for a second boat safari, often working a different stretch of river based on the latest jaguar sightings. The light is excellent for photography and the wildlife is active again as temperatures drop.
