Day by day
We will meet at a hotel in Boa Vista at 08:30 am, for the briefing where everyone will get to know each other, receive the last guidelines, and then enjoy the beautiful road from BR 174 to the border with Venezuela, where customs procedures will be carried out, and then overnight in S. Elena de Uairén. Our Mount Roraima hike is just beginning!
Distance: 220 km by road, approximately 3 hours.
Temperature: Around 25°C (77°F).
Elevation gain: 815 metres.
Anxiety takes hold of everyone these days, where you immerse yourself in the stunning scenery of Gran Savanna until arriving at the Community of Paraitepuy, and from there, enjoy the trekking to the camps on the banks of the Kukenan River for an overnight stay in a tent, under a starry sky. At dawn, Mount Roraima appears ahead, inviting you to another day of trekking.
Distance: 100 km by 4×4, plus a 15 km trek taking 4 to 5 hours.
Temperature: Around 25°C (77°F).
Elevation gain: Around 500 metres.
In the morning, start Mount Roraima’s hike towards the base, where most of the journey will be uphill. In the afternoon, everyone will be accommodated at the base, dazzled by the imposing wall. The base camp is breathtaking, the giant sea wall does not translate into words.
Distance: About 8 km, 5 hours walking.
Temperature: Around 20°C (68°F)
Elevation gain: 750 metres.
The path from bottom to top is unlike any other. One of the most beautiful moments of the Mount Roraima hike, with stops along the way for photos, rest, contemplation of the landscape, and several gardens with bromeliads, many orchids, and small birds. You pass by several igarapés and under the waterfall in the “Paso das Lágrimas”. As you approach the top, you will be observed by the Makunaima Monument, welcoming visitors. Upon arrival at the top, they will be “received” by the “Guardians of the Mountain”, three huge blocks of stones that have the shape of “observers”. The weather is unstable, there may be variations in temperature and rainfall every day at the top.
Distance: 4.5 km, 4 to 5 hours walking.
Temperature: 10°C (50°F) during the day, 5°C (41°F) at night, possibly dropping to zero (32°F) if it rains.
Elevation gain: Around 1000 metres.
Starting today, the days will be full immersion at the top of Mount Roraima, with emphasis on the Vale dos Cristais. The place is full of outcrops in various parts of the path. The valley itself brings the feeling of the Macro and the Micro, the extremes, the surreal, the cosmic, and the inexplicable. The energy of this place doesn’t translate into words, but into sighs, sounds, silences, reflections, and silent observations. We will pass by the iconic Triple Point, a white pyramidal landmark, which stands out in the scenery, delimiting the triple border of Venezuela (85%), Brazil (5%), and Guyana (15%). From there we will continue to spend the night on the Brazilian side from Mount Roraima, in Coati.
Coati is an enigmatic, mysterious, and charming place between two huge rocks with an entrance as if it were a cave. It has a kind of hall where it overlooks the sky. A place comparable to a winter garden shows a small lagoon in the centre, surrounded by varied plants, a small paradise. It is a good place for those who like silence and isolation. Those who are willing can walk 500mt to Paredão on the Brazilian side, where they will see the forest of the Mount Roraima National Park in the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Reserve, where the Ingarikó Indians live, and just beyond the Roraiminha (a smaller tepuy). Later that day, we will continue to the Coati camp, which is located in the Brazilian part of the mountain.
Distance: 15km, 8 hours walking.
Temperature: 10°C (50°F) during the day, 5°C (41°F) at night, possibly dropping to zero (32°F) if it rains.
Elevation gain: the altitude level generally remains the same.
Mount Roraima is the House of Makunaima, and like every house, it also has its rooms. This part of the mountain is one of the most hidden, mysterious and, why not say, special and enigmatic places of this experience. Lake Gladys is indescribable. According to the natives, there is a portal to another dimension, literally. True or not, the fact is that there is something inexplicable there. To skeptics, religious, atheists, adventurers, scientists, biologists, anthropologists, esotericists, mystics, and all those who seek in this fascinating adventure the reunion with oneself or with the origin of life, this place makes everyone rethink a lot of things. It will be a whole day tour, 3 hours to go and another 3 to come back, with a little backpack and sleeping in the same camp.
Distance: 6 km, 6 hours walking.
Temperature: 10°C (50°F) during the day, 5°C (41°F) at night, possibly dropping to zero (32°F) if it rains.
Elevation gain: the altitude level generally remains the same.
On the way back from this Mount Roraima hike, a brief stop at the Triple Point, then at El Foso. A place that awakens the child in everyone. There you will understand the reason for this expression. In the evening, we arrive at the camp near the entrance to Mount Roraima, where we will spend the night.
Distance: 15 km, 8 hours walking.
Temperature: 10°C (50°F) during the day, 5°C (41°F) at night, possibly dropping to zero (32°F) if it rains.
Elevation gain: the altitude level generally remains the same.
Departure for a day of light hiking (approximately 06km), going to Maverick Stone (most top of Mount Roraima, with 2875mt), from where you can see the vastness of the Gran Sabana (including the entire trail that was made to reach the base). Afterward, walk to the Jacuzzi Pools and to the La Ventana lookout, where it is possible to admire the grandeur of Mount Kukenan (Father of the Winds), with its various waterfalls, including the immense forested valley between the two tepuys. The images are breathtaking, it is a true window with a paradise view, an appropriate moment to stay quiet and let the breeze touch the soul. After this experience, pass by Salto Catedral, where you will literally feel inside a Sanctuary. And then to Paso de Los Cristales, a suitable place to replenish energy for the next days of trekking. Easy walk (no backpack, just a small attack bag belongings). There is no camping trip, you sleep in the same place.
Distance: 8 km, 6 hours walking.
Temperature: 10°C (50°F) during the day, 5°C (41°F) at night, possibly dropping to zero (32°F) if it rains.
Elevation gain: the altitude level generally remains the same.
The day to say goodbye to the House of Makunaima and return to our house in the city has arrived. After all, the nostalgia and early longing will run through your mind and your skin, and each look, at each step, will be a sincere “Goodbye”, or “until next time”, or simply: “gratitude for everything” that has been experienced in these days. Start the descent to the base, where we will make a stop to rest, have a snack, and continue for another 3 hours until the next camp, for an overnight stay with the possibility of the most starry sky of the trip.
Distance: Descent to the base takes 4 hours.
Temperature: Around 25°C (77°F).
This morning, we’ll start the final stage of the itinerary with the last hike to the Paraitepuy Community. Then, we’ll board the 4×4 vehicles for Santa Elena. Upon reaching the border, we’ll go through customs procedures, change vehicles, and travel to Boa Vista. We anticipate arriving late afternoon or early evening, completing our Mount Roraima hike at the same hotel where it began.
Distance: Trekking 15 km, about 4 hours, then return to Boa Vista by 4×4.
Temperature: Around 25°C (77°F).

It’s a magical place. The views from the base camp and from the plateau are amazing. The hike wasn’t always easy and I was glad I hired a porter but everything was worth it. The landscape on the plateau ( diamond valley, the view from above, the strange and beautiful rock formations, incredible pools and small waterfalls) is unique and made me speechless. Our guides were very attuned and supportive. Monte Roirama is beautiful but it also does ‘ something with you’. To feel this you have to experience it! …read more read lessDate of Experience: March 23, 2024

I did Route 174 Vivências Amazônica in April/23 and it exceeded my expectations. From the first appointment to the closing, everything was perfect. The Agency owners, the guides, the drivers are wonderful! It is not a tour for "fresh" people, but for those who value nature in all its exuberance, the simplicity of the people and places, that is, experiencing the way of life of the riverside, indigenous people and each location. Fair and honest price. January/24 I did the Expedition to Mount Roraima complete "Lost World of Makunaima". It was the most incredible experience in my life! Being there with this agency was, without a doubt, the best choice, as safety, reliability, logistics, experienced guides, abundant food, personal porters, new and good quality equipment made all the difference. …read more read lessDate of Experience: January 01, 2024
