Machu Picchu Adventure Tour: An Exclusive Cultural Journey

Cusco
6 Nights·7 Days

Overview

This Machu Picchu adventure tour takes travelers on a journey through the Sacred Valley, the high mountain scenery of Lares, and the iconic citadel of Machu Picchu. The itinerary is crafted to be highly versatile, offering guests the freedom to choose daily between cultural visits—such as exploring traditional markets, ancient storehouses, and local Andean communities—or immersive guided hikes through diverse landscapes.

Travelers experience an inspiring range of environments, from the circular terraces of Moray and the salt pans of Maras to remote mountain passes, lush cloud forests, and authentic local traditions like a Pachamama ceremony and a Peruvian cooking class.

Designed as an all-inclusive, premium Machu Picchu experience, the journey prioritizes maximum comfort without sacrificing authenticity. Unwind each night in cozy accommodations, including luxury mountain lodges featuring open-air hot tubs and scenic terraces, as well as select partner hotels strategically located along the route.

  • Full itinerary: Chinchero, Moray and the Maras salt mines, the Pisac market, the Viacha community, the Inca storehouses of Ancasmarca, the village of Huacahuasi, a Peruvian cooking class, the Qori Maki center, a Pachamama ceremony, Pumamarka, Ollantaytambo, and a guided tour of Machu Picchu.
  • Community encounters in Viacha, Huacahuasi, and Huilloq: traditional Andean farming, weaving, and a ceremony honoring Pachamama (Mother Earth).
  • Walking is optional: each day a guided walk replaces the cultural visit if you want it, mostly 3.4 to 8.5 km (1.5 to 6.5 hours), from easy valley paths to a full day among glacial lakes at up to 4,421 m.
  • Four nights in two luxury mountain lodges (Lamay Lodge and Huacahuasi Lodge), with outdoor hot tubs, fire pits, and a private outdoor hot tub in every Huacahuasi room.
  • Activities guided by bilingual (English and Spanish) local guides, certified in Wilderness First Aid, with an average of 15 years’ experience in the Andes.
  • All-inclusive experience: round-trip transport from Cusco, 4 nights of lodging plus 1 night at a partner hotel in Ollantaytambo and 1 night at a partner hotel in Aguas Calientes, all meals, house drinks at the lodges, the train to Aguas Calientes, entrance fees, the Machu Picchu visit, luggage transport, and lodge staff gratuities.
  • Please note: This itinerary includes cultural and active activities (hiking) each day, and it is up to the traveler to choose their preferred program. However, activity options also depend on weather, road/trail conditions, and availability. Your guide confirms each day’s choices on the ground.

Cusco / Chinchero / Moray and the Maras Salt Mines / Lamay Lodge

  • TransferCusco hotel → Chinchero → Sacred Valley
  • Cultural visitMoray Inca terraces + Maras salt mines
  • Walk optionChinchero → Urquillos · 8.2 km · ~3h · Easy to moderate · −850 m
  • OvernightLamay Lodge · 2,958 m

The Machu Picchu adventure tour starts with pickup at your hotel in Cusco between 7am and 8 am. The road leaves the city for Chinchero (about 1 hour by car), an Andean village where colonial buildings stand on Inca foundations.

From Chinchero, the guided visit continues to two of the Sacred Valley’s best-known sites: the circular Inca farming terraces of Moray and the natural salt mines of Maras. If you prefer to walk, an original Inca path runs downhill from Chinchero to the village of Urquillos (8.2 km in about 3 hours, dropping 850 m at an easy to moderate pace).

The day ends at Lamay Lodge, your base for two nights in the Sacred Valley. A one-hour massage can be booked in advance at extra cost.

The full route continues 3.2 km down to Pisac (8.2 km in about 3 hours, with 365 m up and 945 m down).
