Budget Pantanal Tour: Affordable Wildlife & Lodging

Brazil
3 Nights·4 Days

Overview

This Budget Pantanal Tour brings one of Brazil's most fascinating biomes within reach of any traveler. Based in the Southern Pantanal (Mato Grosso do Sul), the experience is built around a single welcoming jungle lodge on the banks of the Miranda River—the only budget-friendly property in the area with English-speaking guides, so international travelers are fully supported.

Across 4 days, the program packs in the full Pantanal experience: wildlife watching, piranha fishing, boat trips, canoeing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, sunset contemplation, and night spotting. Most activities take place right at the lodge or on the Miranda River.

  • Full itinerary: wildlife watching, piranha fishing, boat trips, canoeing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, sunset contemplation, and night spotting.
  • Wildlife sightings of capybaras, caimans, howler monkeys, tapirs, deer, ocelots, herons, and many more native Pantanal animals.
  • At the Pantanal Jungle Lodge, choose between private rooms (double beds) or shared dormitories—flexible for any budget.
  • The only budget lodge in the area with English-speaking local guides.
  • Activities are flexible and arranged on arrival according to the lodge's schedule, weather, and group preference.
  • All-inclusive experience: round-trip transfer from Campo Grande, accommodation, full board, and guides.
  • Please note: the itinerary below is a sample. The schedule is set according to the lodge's activities, timings, and conditions for the period of your stay (availability and weather), rather than chosen freely on a per-activity basis.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival / Piranha Fishing / Sunset / Night Spotting

  • DriveCampo Grande → Buraco das Piranhas → Pantanal Jungle Lodge · ~300 km · ~4 hrs
  • Piranha fishing~2 hrs (Miranda River bank)
  • Sunset + Night tour~1 hr 30 min (weather permitting)

Departure from Campo Grande: PlanetaEXO's local partner will pick you up at the airport, bus station, or your hotel between 10:00 and 10:30 AM to take you straight to the lodge.

After check-in and a brief rest, the first activity in the Pantanal is piranha fishing right outside the lodge, on the banks of the Miranda River. Guests use simple rods, and an instructor stays with the group, sharing tips and safety guidance. Catch enough piranhas and the kitchen can fry them up for dinner!

Weather permitting, late afternoon brings a motorboat ride to watch the sunset. As night falls, head out on the river with your guide for nocturnal spotting—caimans, owls, ocelots, and deer all become more visible after dark.

Day 2

Wildlife Safari / Hiking / Boat & Canoeing

  • 4x4 safari + Hike (1h)~3h30–4h (Pantanal Park Road)
  • Motorboat + canoe~2h (Miranda River)

Wake up early for breakfast, then head out on a 4×4 wildlife safari along the Pantanal Park Road in an open pickup truck. Look for armadillos, tapirs, marmosets, capuchin monkeys, bush dogs, etc. Halfway through, the group leaves the truck for a hike, which allows a closer look at the natural fields and gives the guides time to share trivia about the native flora.

After lunch back at the lodge, a motorboat speeds across the Miranda River for 30 minutes before switching to paddle canoes, giving the group a quiet, contemplative way to glide along the water and watch wildlife from the surface.
