Choose the best Jalapão tour for your travel style
Spanning over 34,000 km² in the state of Tocantins, north of Brazil, Jalapão State Park is marked by the Cerrado biome, featuring vast green areas, golden sand dunes, ancient rock formations, waterfalls, and the iconic fervedouros (natural springs with water pressure so strong it’s impossible to sink in them).
Proving that there’s much to do in Jalapão, PlanetaEXO offers three types of itineraries, each designed to showcase a different side of this fantastic destination:
- Volta ao Parque (VAP): Based on carefully planned itineraries that go against the traditional tourism flow, hike through beautiful trails surrounded by the beauty of the Cerrado to uncover the secrets of Jalapão State Park. Authentic immersion away from the crowds.
- Jalapoeira Crossing: Multi-day trek adventure with over 50 km of trails for adventurers who want to challenge themselves and explore the wilder version of Jalapão.
- Vivências: In Portuguese, “vivências” means “experiences.” These are expeditions featuring intense contact with nature and deep connection with the local communities. Perfect for travelers looking for adventure and learning new cultures.
How to get to Jalapão, Brazil?
Don’t know how to get to Jalapão? The most convenient and common way to access the park is from Palmas, the capital of Tocantins. Brigadeiro Lysias Rodrigues Airport (PMW) is served by direct flights from major Brazilian cities, such as São Paulo, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, and Goiânia.
To reach Mateiros or São Félix do Tocantins—the two main gateways to the park—expect at least a 4-hour drive from Palmas. Since the roads are mostly unpaved and there are sections of sand, 4×4 vehicles are highly recommended.
When is the best time to visit Jalapão?
One of the most important facts about Jalapão is that this is a year-round destination. However, the best time to visit is during the dry season (May to September), when the weather stability provides better conditions for outdoor activities.
While it’s perfectly possible to enjoy the trip in the rainy season (October to April), the heavier rainfall may cause changes to itineraries.
Warm regardless of the season, the temperature average varies from 26°C to 30°C (79°F to 86°F), but it can easily reach 35°C (95°F) in the summer.
