Day by day
After landing at Alta Floresta Airport, in Mato Grosso, our team will be waiting to take you straight to Cristalino Jungle Lodge. Due to its exclusive location in the Amazon Rainforest, the boat ride through the Cristalino River waters is already our first activity. Make sure to take everything in!
Upon arriving at the lodge, you’ll check in and be introduced to all of Cristalino Lodge’s beautiful facilities. After a short hike to start on the right foot, please take your time to settle in and get plenty of rest.
We also encourage you to try some of the restaurant’s amazing recipes, made with fresh ingredients from the forest. Make sure to eat well — you’ll need the energy for the next few days of adventure!
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, the first activity will be hiking on the Sierra Trails, four different trails with moderate difficulty levels that are perfect for exploring the Amazonian flora. You’ll see various trees – including chestnut trees that produce the delicious Brazil nuts –, flowers, valleys, and a fantastic view to watch the sunrise.
When afternoon comes, lunch will be served, and then you can choose to either canoe or go on a boat ride on Teles Pires River. This is also a great moment for wildlife watching, both from the water and the river banks.
In the evening, you’ll have dinner and some free time to get a drink at the bar, relax on the floating deck around the bonfire, or enjoy a nice book in the reading room.
The third day at Cristalino Jungle Lodge will start with a lovely hike on trails that are perfect for wildlife watching, especially birds that only exist in this area, such as the Amazonian Umbrellabird and the majestic Cryptic Forest Falcon. Expert guides will tell you all about these wonderful creatures – prepare yourself for a biology lesson!
More canoeing and boat rides will happen in the afternoon. The destination is the 50-meter (164-foot) watchtowers. This is the perfect height to watch the most mesmerizing sunset you’ll ever see. Commonly, birds and even monkeys show up to say hello, since they live nearby. Don’t forget your camera!
Nothing better than to start the day with some Amazon hiking! Forest hikes are great to immerse yourself in nature and see the most beautiful places and creatures. Expect ancient trees, flooded areas, bamboo plantations, water streams, rock formations, and much more. If you’re lucky, you’ll even be able to spot a red-handed howler monkey!
Cristalino Lodge activities for day four include canoeing on the Cristalino River or in flooded areas of the forest. Both are great for spotting animals and have a moment of immersion in nature.
You can also combine canoeing with hiking: walk a trail in the morning and then canoe back to the hotel. Talk to the guides and staff to know your options!
On the fifth day, you’ll enjoy your last Brazilian breakfast and then a short activity before checkout. This is your final moment to appreciate the beautiful Amazon view, breathe the forest’s fresh air, and take lots of pictures. Don’t waste a single second!
On the transfer back to Alta Floresta Airport, you can munch on some tasty snacks we’ll provide before it’s time to say goodbye.
Keep in mind: this is just a sample itinerary. Your guide will tailor the schedule based on your preferences, availability, and weather conditions, with two daily tours: one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

The best time to visit is anytime. This part of the Amazon Rainforest has two well-defined seasons: the dry season (June to November) and the green season (December to May).
In the dry season, the waters of the Cristalino River are low and it’s a great time to spot birds and large mammals. In the wet season, the forest is humid and the river is high. Due to the warm weather, rain is a common occurrence all year round, but it’s more abundant from October to May.
Each season has its own special traits that are worth visiting. Cristalino Lodge will be ready for you at any given time!

The duration of your stay is totally up to you, but to make the most of the experience, with plenty of time to enjoy the activities and relax on the floating deck, we recommend at least a 5 night visit.
Absolutely! Cristalino Lodge reviews are positive for a reason. Better yet, we’ll give 10 reasons to visit:
1. Our cause: Best hotel experiences combined with promoting forest conservation, which is Cristalino’s main goal.
2. Largest private reserve: The Cristalino Natural Reserve, where Cristalino Lodge is located, is one of the largest in the Amazon, with more than 27.000 acres. It’s almost twice the size of Manhattan Island (NY)!
3. Rich fauna and flora: Southern Amazon is the home of various mammals and nearly 600 species of birds. In terms of vegetation, besides the tropical forest, neighboring biomes (Pantanal and Cerrado) can also be appreciated.
4. Observation towers: 50 meter observation towers provide the best panoramic views of the sky, the rainforest and its creatures.
5. Cristalino River: Enjoy the crystal clean waters of the river by canoeing, boat riding or simply admiring its beauty from the lodge’s floating deck.
6. Comfort and luxury: The lodge provides high standard accommodations, gastronomy, common areas and a variety of services.
7. Amazon cuisine: The restaurant’s menu gives a sophisticated twist to traditional Amazonian and Brazilian dishes made with fresh and high quality ingredients.
8. Environmental responsibility: Strict protocols to guarantee nature is treated with utmost respect are followed every single day. The lodge uses solar energy and special systems of water treatment and recycling, and we limit the number of guests per guide to minimize the activities’ impact. Cristalino Lodge has also been honored with many sustainability awards, including Condé Nast Traveller World Savers Award.
9. Expert guides: Tour guides are highly qualified to safely lead you to the best spots of the forest and tell you all the fun facts about it.
10. Scientific research: Cristalino Jungle Lodge partnered with Cristalino Foundation – a non governmental organization focused on environmental issues in Cristalino Natural Reserve – ten years ago to perform cutting-edge scientific research alongside some of the best universities and institutions in the world. This joint effort enabled the cataloging of more than a thousand species!

The birdlife and wildlife is fantastic (we were particularly focused on birds - and there were good opportunities in the towers and in bird hides for particular species). Spending time on the river itself was fantastic, seeing many things come to the waters edge, as well as specific hikes and activities. The lodge itself was really impressive - all meals, the layout of it and the standard. We stayed in a Bungalow and it was incredible. Probably the best type of rainforest lodge we have stayed in before. We would definetely go back - not least of which because we really got the sense the area was being protected well by the Foundation. …read more read lessDate of Experience: August 01, 2024

It was quite hot during our stay, so we quickly learned to cool off with multiple swims, showers and fruit juices at the bar each day. Our guide for the week, Rafa, and the boatman, Leandro, were fabulous, showing us way more wildlife than we ever thought possible. By the end we had more than 200 birds on our lists, together with multiple mammals, spiders, and frogs. The food at the restaurant was fresh tasting and delicious, much of it with Brazilian flavors and produce from their gardens. All in all, Cristalino was the perfect choice for us. The only downside was that our flight home from Alta Floresta was cancelled at the last minute due to weather. Our daughter texted the concierge (even though of course we had checked out). Lucas joined us after a few minutes, negotiated with the airline staff (who spoke limited English) and stayed with us until we had been rebooked. This all took several hours (since everyone else was rebooking as well!). He wouldn’t leave until we completely taken care of - way above and beyond in my view. So, thank you Cristalino for a wonderful week and to Lucas for getting us home! …read more read lessDate of Experience: January 01, 2024

More Environmental Sustainability at Cristalino Lodge is effective, direct and straight, unlike many who talk about and even invest in the topic, however, they continue to destroy nature in the search for better financial returns. More important than the sophistication of the hotel, the exclusivity of the tours in the middle of the untouched Amazon rainforest and along the crystal-clear river, the preservation of the environment was, without a doubt, an experience that we will never forget. Congratulations to everyone at Cristalino Lodge. …read more read lessDate of Experience: October 01, 2023

George is a very accomplished photographer too and was very generous in sharing his photos. The food is also an extremely high standard and always very fresh. I am gluten intolerant and every meal had options that were delicious and met my needs. The wildlife conservation project around the lodge is truly noteworthy and worth every dollar you spend here. The activities are interesting and the naturalist and ornithologist guides are experienced. We saw rare species of both birds and mammals, and tapirs on several occasions. The absence of air conditioning in the rooms is explained by environmental reasons, so we put up with the heat in the rooms because the coherence of the project requires it. The rooms are, however, well designed to allow a permanent flow of air. The meals are delicious, varied and made with local products. A welcome change and the best meals of our month-long stay in Brazil. I had the most extraordinary stay. The lodge itself is simple but elegant and part of a large private nature preserve and research facility that is a trust. The food was very good and perhaps too abundant! There were macaws, parakeets, agouti and monkeys all around the property. What really made my stay special though were the warm staff (three cheers to all of the kitchen and dining staff and especially Mario). I cannot praise my guide and fellow naturalist Rafa enough - he made it a truly extraordinary wilderness experience. From the trails to boat safaris to night walks, we saw soooooo many species! Rafa is very knowledgeable about the abundant flora and fauna of the area and especially the birds as a trained ornithologist. My travel journal is overflowing with notes on all of what we experienced. Thank you Rafa!
