Day 1 :
Arrival from Manaus / Anavilhanas National Park / Night tour

Tucano is an Amazon cruise from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas. Embarkation takes place at 11:00 AM. After lunch on board, the boat navigates toward the Anavilhanas National Park, where the second-largest river island system in the world is located.

In the afternoon, guests enjoy their first exploration in electric-motor canoes. This is the perfect opportunity to truly take in the raw beauty and the grandiosity of the forest. Admire the lush green trees, breathe in the fresh air, and keep your eyes open for possible animal spotting!

After a delicious dinner at the Tucano Amazon River Cruise, join a night tour for wildlife watching. Accompanied by expert guides, you might see caimans and the mysterious potoo bird.

Flooded forest / Hiking / Night tour

At dawn, explore the flooded forest (igapó) by boat or kayak. As you sail in between the trees of the Amazon Rainforest, you’ll be able to learn more about the ecosystem with your tour guide and, with some luck, spot insects, birds, and even mammals.

Back at the ship, enjoy a hearty breakfast and get ready for more adventure. The group will then embark on a hike through solid ground in the forest to observe the flora and track more animals. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions you might have!

Central Amazon Conservation Complex / Wildlife watching / Isolated tributaries

Bright and early, the cruise heads southeast along the Negro River. The day is dedicated to exploring the remote areas of the Central Amazon Conservation Complex, which is rarely visited by other ships.

In the late afternoon, if conditions allow, the vessel will enter an isolated tributary on the eastern bank of the Negro River for another exciting nocturnal excursion.

Following lunch, the Tucano Amazon River Cruise travels downstream to the iconic Meeting of Waters, where the dark Negro River and the muddy SolimÔes River flow side by side without mixing.

As evening falls, guests enjoy a farewell dinner and a “Caipirinha Night” celebration on board as the boat approaches Manaus.

The M/Y Tucano is one of the best Amazon river cruises in Brazil. It’s a classic, nimble yacht with a potent yet silent motor. It’s great for exploration, but it also offers excellent facilities, including comfortable cabins and leisure areas (lounge, dining room, and deck).

Though it’s not considered a luxury boat, it’s elegant, authentic, and cozy, with varnished wood paneling and over 70 large windows for natural light and breathtaking views of the Amazon Rainforest.

All cabins are air-conditioned and feature private en-suite bathrooms outfitted with Egyptian cotton linens and natural bath amenities. There are only 8 units in total, which ensures intimacy and personalized attention. They are divided into the following categories:

Yellow: The largest cabins on the boat (5 units). They feature side-by-side twin beds that can be converted into a single large double bed.

Green: Double occupancy cabins structured with bunk beds. Ideal for couples or friend groups.

Blue: Exclusive cabins for solo travelers, set up with a single bed (these utilize the same physical footprint as the Green Category).

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to take the cruise?

Fantastic in any month, the Tucano operates year-round, with the landscape changing according to water levels. Naturally, this changes the activities guests can enjoy.

During the rainy season (December to May), you can enter the igapĂłs (flooded forests) by kayak, getting very close to the tree canopy. During the dry season (June to November), the river recedes to reveal white-sand beaches, and wildlife (caimans, fishing birds) concentrates in the smaller channels.

How do I get to the ship?

The experience includes shuttle services from Manaus. Whether you’re in the airport or in selected hotels (Villa Amazonia, Juma Opera, Casa Perpetua, Saint Paul, and Ibis STYLES), Tucano’s staff will pick you up and drive you straight to the ship.

Is the Tucano Amazon River Cruise considered “luxury”?

The M/Y Tucano focuses on providing a comfortable and sophisticated experience, but it does not aim for standard “high luxury” or fine dining. The authentic luxury of this trip lies in the small group size (only 12 to 16 travelers), the excellence of the naturalist guides, and the access to untouched locations.

Will I have Wi-Fi or cell phone service on board?

No, there is no internet connection on the boat, and cell phone signals drop shortly after leaving the outskirts of Manaus. For emergencies, there is a satellite phone on board.

The lack of service is not only correlated to the remote areas the ship navigates to, but also to the essence of the trip: total immersion in nature and disconnection from the outside world.

How does electricity work on board?

Electrical current is 110V / 60Hz, with standard North American-style outlets (flat prongs). During the solar power hours, outlets and air conditioning are turned off to save energy and provide absolute silence, but the LED lighting and the bathroom water systems remain fully operational.

Are we guaranteed to see many animals?

The Amazon possesses unparalleled biodiversity, but animals live in dense, high-canopy forests and are naturally elusive.

Thanks to deep exploration of remote areas and the use of silent electric motors, the Tucano team typically spots between 60 and 90 bird species, 3 to 6 types of monkeys, as well as caimans, sloths, and pink river dolphins. Don’t forget your binoculars.

When should I arrive in Manaus?

We leave Manaus at 11 AM. Therefore, we recommend arriving in the city at least one day before the cruise.

When should I book my return flight?

On the last day, we disembark in Manaus around 7:30 AM. Please book your return flight for after 10:30 PM.

Terms and conditions

The booking model requires commitment to ensure operational departures, which are often confirmed even with a low number of passengers.

Cabin Hold: We can hold a cabin for 1 week with no commitment while the client decides.

Initial Deposit: To confirm the reservation, a 35% deposit of the total amount is required. This deposit is strictly non-refundable.

Final Payment: The remaining balance must be paid in full at least 60 days before the embarkation date.

Cancellation Rules:

61 days or more before departure: Full refund (excluding the 30% deposit).

Between 60 and 45 days before departure: 50% of the total trip cost is retained.

Less than 45 days before departure: No refund.
