Anavilhanas National Park
The largest protected area in the Amazon Basin, Anavilhanas National Park encompasses a huge river archipelago in the Rio Negro in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. An area of 350,000 hectares with a perimeter of 380 km has been put forward by the Brazilian government as a tentative World Heritage Site since 1998.
Is the second-largest fluvial archipelago in the world, with more than 400 islands, and hosts great biodiversity and distinct ecosystems that stand out amongst the already rare habitat of the Amazon Rainforest. Protected species include margay, jaguar, giant anteater, giant armadillo, giant otter, Amazonian manatee, and Amazon river dolphin.

Due to the Amazon seasons, you can see two totally different scenarios. The water level can vary between 8 and 12 m and offer different activities, based on the season. During high tide, from October to March, the islands and most of the vegetation are flooded, creating the igapós and you can go through the forest and treetops by boat. In the dry season, from April to September, river beaches of different sizes are formed, creating a show apart and good places to walk and sunbathe.
Gastronomy
Surrounded by splendid decoration and under the baton of chef Debora Shornik, you will taste dishes with the most exotic yet harmonious mix of regional flavors with contemporary western cuisine. Prepare yourself for the gastronomic sensations that CamuCamu Restaurant will provide you - beyond the privileged view of Negro River.
A beautiful area, with a dense jungle, beautiful birds and animals, and biodiversity that is remarkable. It was a once-in-a-lifetime visit to this extraordinary place. During your stay, you will enjoy activities such as:
Water Trails
Board in speedboats, as the speedboats that travel on the river, are called, for a ride in the Anavilhanas National Park. Depending on the season, the scenario is completely different! Guests can enjoy the beautiful beaches of white sand and dark waters in the dry season or the magic of the igapós, in the high season, when the forest is flooded and the trail is made between the treetops.
Sunset Contemplation
Of the beauties of the Amazon, the colors of the sky reflected in the Rio Negro are certainly one of the highlights that make this destination special. It is difficult to describe the shades of pink, lilac, green, and blue that mix with the dark and deep green of the forest, touching the mirror of the black waters of the river. The sunset contemplation tour is done in speedboats to the best spot between the islands to enjoy the silence, feel the peace and immerse yourself in the colors of the Amazon!
Nocturnal Animal Focus
Traveling to the Amazon is understanding that nature is the protagonist of the adventure! To observe wild animals, we have to be silent and follow the instinct of the guides who know the region and its secrets. When we find an alligator on the edge of the river or we are lucky enough to see a sloth in the trees, that's when we understand the grandeur of the forest. In this activity, as soon as night falls, guests are taken by experienced guides for a ride in speedboats in the Anavilhanas National Park in search of nocturnal animals.
Giant Tree and Traditional Riverside Community
In the dry season: After breakfast, depart by speedboat to visit the riverside communities of Santo Antonio and Tiririca. Upon arrival, a walk through an interpretive trail in a forest to discover the secrets of the fauna and flora. Return from the trail and traditional lunch of grilled Amazonian fish at the house of the riverside caboclos, a true experience with the community! Then, transfer for leisure to Praia do Tiririca, in the heart of the Anavilhanas National Park. After a refreshing bath, and appreciation of the flora and fauna of the islands, a quick trip to the largest tree in the Anavilhanas igapó: a giant Macucu, an incursion into the floodplain forest, and an explanation of this peculiar ecosystem.

In the flood season: Right after breakfast, depart by speedboat to visit the Sobrado community. Upon arrival, a walk through an interpretive trail in a solid ground forest until reaching a giant Samaúma, the largest species of tree in the Amazon! Return from the trail and traditional lunch of Amazonian fish roasted on the coals at the house of the riverside caboclos, a true experience with the community. Then, visit the largest tree in the Anavilhanas igapó, a giant Macucu in Paraná das Araras. On return to the Lodge, incursion into the igapó forest to appreciate the flora and fauna of this ecosystem.
Grutas do Madadá
Day to discover one of the most surprising attractions in the region! The Grutas do Madadá are rock formations in the middle of the forest, in a more remote region, up the Rio Negro. After breakfast, departure by speedboat in a journey of approximately 1 hour. Arriving at Casa Rosa, a place with a mini-museum about riverside life and old photos, which is the starting point of the trail. In addition to the stone halls that are the main attraction, the trail that gives access to Madadá has several stopping points where the guides reveal the secrets of the Amazonian fauna and flora. The trail lasts 1:30h (3 hours round trip) on flat terrain. After the walk, traditional caboclo lunch with roasted fish and rest in the bungalow.

@nobackhome
In the dry season, on the way back, stop at the beautiful beaches of white sand in contrast to the dark waters of the river, for bathing and contemplation. In flood season: After lunch, stop at an appropriate place for recreational piranha fishing. Return by speedboat to the Lodge (1 hour), through the islands of Anavilhanas National Park.
Jaú National Park Expedition with an overnight in the forest
Enjoy breakfast at the Amazon Jungle Lodge and get ready for the adventure of discovering more remote and preserved regions of the Rio Negro up towards the great Jaú National Park. We board a speedboat, with stops to observe the fauna in the lakes of the Anavilhanas Archipelago (by means of opportunities identified by the guide). Further on, we will arrive at the surprising place of Velho Airão, the first Portuguese settlement on the Rio Negro. This place housed mansions from cities that were prosperous in the period of the rubber cycle and that today are ruins of a history embraced by the forest.
After visiting Velho Airão, we went out to see the Samaumeiras, the giant trees of the Amazon! In Jaú National Park we will visit the waterfalls of the Jaú National Park; bath with floats and leisure in the Carabinani River; have a caboclo lunch at the waterfall: grilled fish and side dishes; have a free afternoon to explore the surrounding region, interact with natives (if they are there); setting up a camp; with hammocks and nets, the best way to camp in the forest; and have dinner served by our team and overnight at the camp.

@mkexpedition
In the morning we will wake up to the sounds of the forest, and our team prepares breakfast. Today's program is to visit the Cachoeira Community and interact with the caboclo/indigenous way of life of a traditional riverside community. Afterward, canoeing to Macacos Island, with local residents, with possible viewing of flocks of Bicó monkeys and other animals. On the way back, community attractions: giant trees (Samaúma and Angelim), a flour mill, local fruit orchard. Return by speedboat to the Lodge. Take advantage of the navigation to enjoy the colors of the Rio Negro and stop for lunch at a caboclo farm.

Design for sustainability lovers!
Incredible days in the Amazon, as our Brazil is wonderful!
We stayed at this lodge, located on the banks of the Rio Negro in Novo Airão, 200km from Manaus. The place is inspired by this rich diversity with a sustainable project that aligns comfort, leisure and exploration of the surrounding nature. Designed by Spanish architect Patricia O’Reilly, the lodge follows an original design that combines art, nature and contemporary details.
Award-winning architecture and design for sustainability lovers. Attractive to the eyes, comfortable to the body, allied with the environment and the community in which it operates.
Aiming to make the best use of local labor, specialized in shipbuilding, as well as native tools, materials and technologies, the design of the work assumed the outline of a boat, however, inverted. Over 2 years, the work employed 60 people from the city. All of them were trained and supervised by the local master for structuring in wood, using his expertise in boat-making technology.
Thanks for all the hospitality!
Adorable and perfect
Wonderful location, with a beautiful view of the river, attentive staff, and attentive to every detail. The restaurant offers typical regional dishes super well prepared in addition to a varied menu for other tastes. Large and comfortable rooms. It offers several options for exploring the region. Perfect in everything.
The most luxurious jungle hotel in Brazil.
The most luxurious jungle hotel in Brazil. The project, developed by Atelier O’Reilly Architecture & Partners Sustainable Strategies, has authors Patricia O’Reilly and Armando Prieto as architects, in addition to co-author Jean Dallazem. The design excelled in its integration with the landscape in order to seek thermal comfort, air renewal with cross ventilation, natural lighting and accessibility.
The food is excellent!
We chose this jungle hotel located in the municipality of Novo Airão, on the banks of the Rio Negro. The hotel is relatively new, has only 13 suites and has an excellent infrastructure with items such as air conditioning in all rooms and a swimming pool, not so common in hotels in the region. The board is complete, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included every day. The food is excellent and very plentiful, with an a la carte menu where you can choose a starter, main course and dessert for lunch and dinner. Options include regional dishes (especially fish such as Tucunaré, Pirarucu and Surubim) and more conventional dishes such as spaghetti and hamburgers. To get there, we took a flight to Manaus and then a transfer to the hotel (already included in the stay), which took about 2h30. There is also the option of arriving by seaplane, which takes about 40 minutes.
An authentic and luxurious trip in the Amazon
They do everything to please anyone with great attention! The architecture is impressive. It has a pool, games room and breakfast is included with an incredible view, it has accessibility for the disabled! The music is very nice. The rooms and the hotel itself are beautiful. Very good food and as a vegetarian the menu was perfect. My experience was great and I loved it a lot, I recommended it to some friends and they just loved it too. Very authentic travel, if you are looking to have an authentic and luxurious trip in the Amazon, this is definitely the only and the most perfect option.
Well worth it for the excellent service and tours provided
Undoubtedly one of the best services ever received. Not to mention the walks through the Anavilhanas and surrounding forests, always accompanied by an unparalleled Staff and with the best service. I felt extremely well and always happy with extreme care, not to mention that the hotel is beautiful and passionate!
This lodge is a dream destination!
Fully integrated with nature, this lodge is a dream destination for those who want to discover the exuberant Amazon. A paradise for nature without giving up comfort and quality. After a very pleasant morning by the pool overlooking the Rio Negro, we went to visit the place of “MALUCO”, a lodge employee who does a very interesting job: he receives injured animals, orphans, seized from illegal hunting at his site. whatever! And in this sanctuary that he created with his own hands, he takes care of them so that they can return to nature when possible. It’s got everything there! A beautiful volunteer work to see. This contact with nature is indescribable.
Simply perfect!
Amazing hotel, the same staff. From booking to checking out, we loved everything. We are well-traveled and discerning, but the hotel exceeded all expectations. Good food, incredible tours, impeccable service, and high-quality bed, and bath linen. Highly recommend. Worth every penny!
Very sophisticated architecture
I stayed three nights in this beautiful lodge, perfectly integrated into the unspoiled nature that surrounds it. The structure is small and welcoming and has very sophisticated architecture. There are two observation towers from which you can watch unforgettable sunsets. There is also a swimming pool and a private pontoon on the river, from which boats depart for excursions into the Anavilhanas National Park. The room assigned to me (a comfort suite for three people) is large, very clean, tastefully furnished, and equipped with a large terrace with the inevitable hammock. The restaurant overlooking the river is excellent and refined. Dinner and lunch are à la carte, while breakfast is served at the table. The staff is extremely available, always present and ready to satisfy the customer’s wishes.
A wonderful surprise!
Hotel with wonderful cuisine, tours, accommodation and service! I miss you already! It was our first time in the Amazon! I loved the service from the staff! Very attentive! One day I ate a fish with tucupi and I got sick because that tucupi is strong! They made tea for me to drink and everyone asked how I was. It’s one of those small hotels where we’re not just guests, but part of the team! The cuisine well on the whim! I managed to have regional foods but also steak and chips for my kids! Pleasing everyone is not an easy task, but they did it! I went with my husband and 2 children aged 22 and 16!
Very nice tours! Bonito to help and visit local caboclo communities to find out how they live, what they eat, their pets, their routine! Alligator spotting at night is the best tour: seeing a local find and pick up a baby crocodile in front of you was awesome! The trails in the forests with that birdsong, such exuberant vegetation and with so many uses in medicine was something extraordinary!
The staff is efficient and very attentive
The hotel has few rooms and therefore is very private, you have a very personalized service. The staff is efficient and very attentive. We like it a lot. The a la carte food is very good, you have the freedom to choose what to eat; The rooms are quite spacious and pleasant.
