About Chapada Diamantina National Park
One of the most complete adventure destinations in the country, the second largest national park in Brazil is located in the heart of the State of Bahia, 450 km from Salvador. The scenery, formed by mountain ranges of sedimentary origin, was sculpted by winds and water over 1.7 billion years, resulting in fascinating and unique natural attractions in the region.

Leo Lacerda
Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Chapada Diamantina National Park is a conglomerate of natural beauty, history, art, and life. In the 17th and 18th centuries, this region was the scene of the mining rush, and it was not by chance that it was named Diamantina, due to the number of diamonds found here, including the largest diamond in the world with 3,167 carats.

Saulo Diniz
Rich in biodiversity and part of the Cerrado, Caatinga, and Atlantic Forest biomes, Chapada Diamantina National Park is a stronghold for rare animal species, such as the giant anteater, giant armadillo, porcupine, wild cats, capybaras, and countless types of birds and snakes.
Day by Day
Day 1 - Poço do Diabo / Gruta da Fumacinha / Morro do Pai Inácio
On the first day of our expedition, we will explore the northern part of Chapada Diamantina National Park on an easily accessible hike to a delicious bath in Poço do Diabo, a twenty-meter-high waterfall. The canyon-shaped river gives even more beauty to the landscape, along with the dark red color of the water. Then, we will head towards the Gruta da Fumaça in the city of Iraquara, one of the most complete in the region, to see the diversity of stalactite, stalagmite, and speleothem formations, in spectacular halls. To end the day, a light climb to Morro do Pai Inácio, one of the postcards of Chapada Diamantina, to watch the sunset and get a real dimension of the immensity that is this park. We will continue by car to spend the night in the city of Guiné, the entry point for the Vale do Pati trail.

Day 2 to 4 - Vale do Pati
One of the most popular treks in Chapada Diamantina, Vale do Pati is an attraction in itself. This valley brings together a bit of everything that exists in the park, with beautiful waterfalls, caves, plains, and mountains that will enchant you and also challenge your physical limits. The steep ascents and descents are rewarded by the incredible views.
Day 1 - Cachoeirão Lookout
Duration: 8hrs | Distance: 16km
We will begin the Vale do Pati trek, with a steep climb of Aleixo for about 1 hour contemplating a beautiful view of the mountains. After a walk between plains, streams, and mountains on the plains of Gerais do Rio Preto we will reach the Cachoeirão, with a spectacular view of almost 260 meters with another beautiful view of the valley above. In times of rain, its walls impress with the formation of more than 20 waterfalls, making this place even more magical. We will continue our trek contemplating the sunset until we reach the homestay Igrejinha, where we will enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by this Pati host family and have a deserved rest.
Day 2 - Morro do Castelo and Funis Waterfall
Duration: 7hrs | Distance: 6km
After a well-deserved night of rest, we will have breakfast and prepare for the challenge of the day: climb Morro do Castelo. Along a steep 2-hour trail, we will cross a beautiful forest until we reach a majestic cave. We will cross the cave from the inside with a flashlight until we reach the top of the castle overlooking the entire Pati Valley. After some time contemplating all the beauty and grandeur of the place, we descend back to the valley.

@gabriela.gomesds
We will continue our walk down until we reach the Cachoeira dos Funis, over 30 meters high, and a natural pool perfect for cooling off and recharging. In addition to the main well, we will rest at Cachoeira do Lajedo, perfect for relaxing after a long walk. At the end of the day, we will contemplate the sunset heading to our homestay at Mr. Wilson's house, where we will sleep and enjoy a delicious homemade dinner on our last night at Vale do Pati. Mr. Wilson was one of the first two to receive tourists in 1997, becoming a reference in Vale do Pati for hospitality and delicious dinners. Today commanded by the sons Nara and Wilton.
Day 3 - Vale do Pati Lookout and Gerais do Rio Preto
Duration: 7hrs | Distance: 7km | Elevation Gain: 644m
Enjoy the last moments in this enchanted valley! After a hearty breakfast and saying goodbye to our host at the homestay, we start our day on a trail towards Vale do Pati lookout, a climb a 1 hour steep, one last chance to get the perfect postcard picture or just contemplate its panoramic landscape.
We will walk through the plains of Gerais do Rio Preto, a flat path with a beautiful view of the region's mountains. After a stop for a picnic and a bath, we will follow our trail and descend the Aleixos until reaching Guiné village around 16:00, where a car will be waiting to take us to Mucugê city.

Day 5 - Buracão Waterfall
This is a day to relax and get to know the Buração waterfall, one of the most impressive views in the entire Chapada Diamantina National Park. We will leave by car from Mucugê to the city of Ibicoara, already in the southern part of the park, on an easy trail of 3 km. To reach the imposing 85-meter waterfall, you have to cross a canyon along the wall or swim against the current. The view of the waterfall is impressive, it's impossible not to be moved by the force of nature! On the way back, we'll pass by Orquídeas Waterfall, a great place to sunbathe and have a picnic. We will return by car to the city of Mucugê, to take a tour of the center and stay overnight.
Day 6 - Poço Encatado / Poço Azul / City tour and dinner in Lençóis
On our last day of this expedition, we'll drive back to the northern part of Chapada Diamantina National Park to see two of the park's most famous attractions. At Poço Encantado, in Itaetê, visitors enter a cave to contemplate the water that forms a translucent well, which from April to September is illuminated by sunlight, creating a magnificent effect. We will head to the municipality of Nova Redenção to float with vests in Poço Azul, in intense blue waters 20 meters deep, surrounded by the rocks of the cave. Both attractions are easily accessible and will give you the feeling of being in a somewhat magical environment, so sublime. Our itinerary ends in Lençóis, a city listed by the National Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), where we will take a walk through the center of stone streets and colorful houses, to learn a little about the history, culture and, of course, the cuisine - point city fort - at a dinner to celebrate the end of our expedition.

Customer Reviews
Much more was delivered than promised
The company was excellent from the first contact with the team until the end of the tour with the guides. The guides not only showed full mastery of knowledge of the region and trekking but also proved to be excellent people who welcomed us and taught us in the best possible way, mixing the theoretical knowledge of the Pati Valley with the wisdom of only those who live in the area could transmit. Much more was delivered than promised. I will definitely recommend Planeta EXO and the guides to my family and friends!
The guides are a massive asset to Planeta EXO
We had an unforgettable 5-day trek across the amazing scenery of the Vale do Pati. Our guides had an almost unbelievable depth of knowledge about the entire park and obviously cared very deeply about the preservation and protection of the landscape. They both were incredible navigators and guides. The houses and food provided authentic and delicious stays, which really helped us appreciate the culture of living in the valley. The guides’ efforts in speaking to us in English meant so much, and actually, by day 3 we were able to have full conversations. I think they will only get better at English the more he is exposed to trekkers from outside of Brazil, but they are already a massive asset to PlanetExo!
First-class service
Both my wife and I had a fabulous time trekking in the vale de Pati… we thought that Planeta EXO were professional and everything worked like clockwork. The accommodation and food were superb, our guide was knowledgeable and considerate and nothing was too much trouble. In addition, the service provided Pre and post the trek was excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending Planeta Exo to anybody who is looking for a company that not only gives back but also provides a first-class service.
The best experience of my life
It was the best experience of my life. I went with the expectation of trekking in Chapada, but it was far beyond what I could have imagined. And I can say that I was guided by the best professional I’ve ever met! Congratulations Planeta Exo, you were sensational from beginning to end.
Immersion in nature
Amazing 5 days… this immersion in nature, the good vibe of the team, the amazing people who welcomed us… as well as the waterfall, and the view,… it was really a second but even stronger experience!!! Thank you so much to our guide, for the relaxed attitude, his sharings, his smile, and his flexibility!!! (What a great change for Cachoeirão por baixo). Thank you to the whole group for the conversation, the silence was so present and divine! the hiking and sharing… Thank you so much! Great guide! A truly good person.
Incredible experience that I intend to relive
When PlanetaEXO was recommended to me, I didn’t think I would identify so much with its proposal. It is a serious company that strictly complies with what it offers. The guide was wonderful, with a lot of experience, commitment, and good energy. It was an incredible experience that I intend to relive.
Extremely well organized
The 5-day adventure through the Vale do Pati was amazing and extremely well organized. Our guide was very well familiar with the path and the environment and I felt constantly in good hands. This adventure was not only about the beautiful landscape, nature and physical activity, but it was also a culinary adventure of great brazilian food! It is truly a great, sustainable way of getting to know a very special part of Brasil. Thank you!
We were astounded by the beauty
We did a 3-day trek in the Chapada Diamantina National Park and we were astounded by the variety and beauty of the area. The guide is very knowledgeable about the area, and was generally an engaging and encouraging guide. When the going was a bit difficult (crossing rivers, steep climbs, etc) he personally assisted us to ensure our safety, and was encouraging when one of our friends suffered from vertigo, enabling us all to reach the viewpoints. We really enjoyed our trek – thank you!! I’d also like to note that when our bus arrived late at night the company sent someone to meet us to make sure we were OK, which was so kind and very much appreciated.
PlanetaEXO made sure to provide everything we needed
We had probably the 3 most amazing days of our lives at Pati Valley! PlanetaEXO made sure to provide everything we needed so we could enjoy such a wonderful place with no stress: there was a transfer, facilities to store what you’re not taking to the valley, communicating with you at all times, and a handpicked guide! To be honest, at this point we don’t even feel like we should call the host a guide, because, after these three days, we felt we got ourselves a new friend! He is very smart, knows what he is doing, is very communicative, and could tell us things from the geological formation of the rocks from Chapada to old Europe history! Incredibly fun guy that really set a great vibe within the group!
I recommend to everyone!
This was the fourth time I did Pati’s trek and the first time I used the services of a company. I advise everyone to do it. Despite the weather conditions we had (a lot of rain and mud) the PlanetaEXO organization gave us all the necessary security to go ahead with our adventure. They are very organized and all the tour and accommodation logistics worked perfectly. The hosts were much more than guides. As they are natives of the Valley, they taught us a lot about the patizeiros way of life and about the signs of nature, they translated the complex local geography showing us beauties that would be hidden from our eyes in the City: rock formations, plants, animals, the sunrise moon behind the mountain… They behaved irreproachably, always very cheerful, attentive, and careful with our safety. I must highlight the quality of the food and the welcome at Igrejinha and, mainly, at Seu Wilson’s house. Although it wasn’t the first time, it was an equally unforgettable experience, which I recommend to everyone who wants to overcome their physical limitations, develop their mental resilience and immerse themselves in an inner journey, getting in touch with a very unique relationship between space x time in the midst of all the conflicts that plague contemporary society. Thank you PlanetaEXO!!
A very satisfactory environment
Both the guide and PlanetaEXO were wonderful… as a biologist, I was able to have a very satisfactory analysis of the environmental perception, arguments, and attitudes of well-educated people. What enchanted me the most it was when he demonstrated his passion for the place and his way of life.
A special way to ring in 2023!
It was absolutely amazing! The best guide was the best we could have ever hoped for! Such a special way to ring in 2023. I cannot begin to express what an amazing experience this was. While I knew it would be beautiful and challenging, this New Year’s trek in Vale do Pati exceeded my expectations in all respects. And I can’t imagine having done it without this guide. From our first meeting, I sensed I would be able to trust him completely. He knew how to “read” us, to understand what we were capable of and push us to go a little beyond our comfort zones while always making sure we were safe. I will never forget our day going to the bottom of Cachoeirão, for one! I hope someday to be able to have him as a guide on another adventure!
Our guide was excellent!
We spent three days hiking in Vale do Pati and one day driving around to see the caves. An unforgettable experience together with the guide, he was excellent. Very knowledgeable about nature, animals and much more. I can only recommend this. Thanks again for everything!
Far beyond our expectations
Trekking through the Chapada Diamantina with PlanetaEXO has been the most wonderful experience and adventure and has been far, far beyond our expectations. Thank you SO much to the team and especially our guide, for making the trip such a memorable and unique experience – we couldn’t have wished for more. The organization, guidance, and support upfront and during the trip have been one of a kind – highly agile, caring, and reliable. It was a perfectly prepared and managed trip accounting for our preferences and taking perfect care of everything. It’s been an absolute pleasure trekking with his fantastic experience, thoughtfully and lovely prepared lunches, and the most friendly smile (even when faced with rain and muddy paths :D). Obrigado, vielen Dank and many thanks for these three days, which we will always remember!!
