4-day Lençóis Maranhenses Trek
Experience a new route in a 4-day Trek in Lençóis Maranhenses crossing the park in 4 days and 3 nights, outside the traditional circuit. Developed on the south side, this tour allows travelers to keep in touch with villages and families that have inhabited the region for centuries, living practically the same way as their ancestors. This is one of the least explored places, with even more impressive dunes and crystal-clear lagoons not yet visited by visitors.
Being in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is like being in a desert. In this cluster of sand dunes, located in the state of Maranhão, more than 36,000 lakes are formed by the accumulation of rainwater, creating a gallery of oases as far as the eye can see.
This is one of the most original and unique ecosystems on the planet and is virtually untouched by humans. The region was only discovered in 1970 during a private expedition and, since 1981, it has become a National Park and an environmental protection area of 1.555 km².

About Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
White sand and emerald-colored freshwater lagoons form the paradisiacal setting of Lençóis Maranhenses in Brazil, 250 km away from the capital of Maranhão, São Luís. This is the largest dune field in South America and one of the most beautiful nature destinations in the country.

Luciana Guilliod
Along the 80 kilometers of coastline of the Park, there are beaches from 600 meters to two kilometers wide and dunes from 10 to 20 meters high, which form long winding strips of sand up to 75 kilometers long. The Restinga is the predominant vegetation in the Park, part of the Cerrado biome, but has a strong influence on the Caatinga and Amazon ecosystems.

@dronelencoismaranhenses
The rainy season, between January and April, is fundamental for the region's ecosystem. It is the rains that cause the peculiar phenomenon of Lençois Maranhenses: freshwater accumulates in the valleys between the dunes and does not drain because of a layer of impermeable rock that is under the sand. The result is more than 5,000 lakes that form during June and October.

Nice experience
I went at the beginning of the rainy season a nice experience with meditative hikes through white sand dunes, and cooling off in rivers and lagoons. Simple but nice accommodation/food 🙂
The Christmas days alone with the guide as an attentive, funny guide was also a pleasure 😉
Excellent guide
I made the crossing with an excellent guide. Native, had knowledge of the whole region, intelligent, speaks very well, good vibe, good energy. The tour was amazing and I will definitely recommend it to other friends.
One of the most amazing experiences of my life
One of the most amazing experiences of my life, and I definitely recommend it. This path has been long and difficult, but it has been worth it. We had an excellent tour guide with substantial knowledge of the area and a true passion for desert trekking. I recommend bringing plenty of water and sunscreen, hiking poles, and long sleeves.
Sublime and unique place in the world
It was one of the most beautiful experiences of our life; itinerary in a sublime and unique place in the world, accompanied by our guide who is always smiling, attentive and considerate!
On the program: walking in the magnificent dunes, swam in the most beautiful lagoons of the desert, and nights in a hammock in the oases where we had the chance to chat with the locals.
I highly recommend it!
I did this 100% Ecological Trek and I loved it! It was perfect! I really loved it! Our guide, is super attentive, very nice and has a lot of knowledge to exchange. Everything was super smooth! I highly recommend it!
Carefully organized
Words are lacking to describe this experience. It far exceeded our best expectations. From the service, super attentive, helpful, and cordial, to the conduction of the trekking, everything is more than perfect! Everything was carefully organized, always concerned with providing us with the best experience, and details that surprised us from start to finish. Much gratitude to the team for the beautiful experience that we will take with us for a lifetime! We’ll be back for sure!
We were delighted with the team
We were delighted with the team, they were very helpful from the moment we got in touch with them, sending us all the information for the private tours and clarifying all our doubts. The tour was exactly as the script they sent us. Lunch was at the home of one of the residents of the Park, homemade food, was very good, and on the way back from the lagoon they even waited for us with tapioca!
Quite an adventure!!!
Undoubtedly, it was one of the most impactful experiences I’ve had in my life. Walking these days through the dunes and discovering the most beautiful lakes in the country was quite an adventure!!! At first, I was afraid that I couldn’t handle it, but we had an excellent guide who made the experience very smooth. The overnight stays in the oasis in hammocks were a separate chapter, the opportunity to talk to the people there is an immersion in real Brazil. Allied to all this, the fact that we went theoretically “out of season” (I emphasize that the lagoons were absolutely full), allowed us to know Lençóis exclusively since outside the oasis, in these days we did not come across anyone on the trail.
It was just PERFECT!
We went through the Lençois desert, passing from dune to dune and from lagoon to lagoon, each more beautiful than the other. This vast expanse of sand, still pure and unspoiled, provides a feeling of freedom and fantastic well-being never felt anywhere. It is still important to have a minimum of physical condition and to be very well equipped against the sun which is very strong! We have always been very well-received and pampered! Millions of little surprises that I let you discover throughout the trek! Last but not least, our guide was awesome and great! A real enthusiast and lover of his region (he was born there) he knows his area like no one else and will make you discover the natural park in an incredible way, so much in love that despite the difficulties you will fall in love too! Very attentive and very considerate, it was just PERFECT!
I'm already planning to go back
One of the best treks in life!!! Wonderful place!!! Amazing landscapes!!! An experience that there are no words to describe the feeling of walking in the desert alongside incredible landscapes, at every step a wonderful landscape, at every stop in the houses of the natives the beauty of simplicity. Congratulations to the team!!! The trekking was super attentive and the guides have a great knowledge of the region. I’m already planning to go back.
An adventure to remember forever
This trip was an adventure to remember forever. The walk is wonderful. Lagoons with blue and crystalline waters are present everywhere. The sand, for the most part, is hard, so it is possible to walk with peace of mind. Getting to know the local communities with their simple and welcoming residents is something enriching and makes us forget the tiredness.
One of the best I've ever done
Since before the start of the trip, everything was wonderful. I was very well briefed on the necessary equipment, and the team left me in no doubt. the guide was very nice, always making us comfortable and safe. We were very well received in the places where we slept, and the food was divine. One of the best trails I’ve ever done. I recommend.
Welcoming family lodge
We walked 16 km at night illuminated by the full moon, a show of light, the sounds of the desert, and the nocturnal birds to the Mocambo village, where we spent the night at Dona Paixão’s house! A passionate lady with a welcoming family lodge. Dinner, breakfast, and lunch with a taste of simplicity. The coffee mixed with freshly made coconut milk is Trés fantastique! On the other days we are dazzled by the beautiful sunset, with the yellow moon, even on the 3rd night we were able to see the milky way at the oasis Queimada dos Britos!
Sensational
The tour was sensational. At first I thought it would be quite tiring, but the walk through the dunes is really nice! The entire route is done in the morning, escaping the harsh Maranhão sun. There are many ponds on the way and at any moment you can stop to refresh in the crystal clear waters! The walk is always accompanied by the natural air conditioning of the Lençóis Maranhenses.
Cultural immersion
My family and I did this fantastic trekking guided by an experienced guide from the Mucambo community, a native with great knowledge of the region’s ecosystem, with valuable hiking tips and interesting stories. Incredible landscapes, cultural immersion at the support points, and a welcoming reception.
Extremely satisfied
It is a unique experience to get to know the landscapes of the park and the local culture. We were extremely satisfied with the itinerary and the accommodations in the locals’ houses, with the food and reception.
We were provided with all the support we needed. Our guide was extremely attentive and has vast knowledge about Lençóis, which made the experience even more attractive! We have only praise and recommendations!
