Over het avontuur

Het stadje Itacaré ligt aan de Cacaokust in het zuiden van Bahia en biedt surfmogelijkheden, paradijselijke stranden, watervallen en alle vreugde van Bahia. Deze stad, die bekend staat als “het Hawaï van Brazilië”, wordt al sinds de jaren ’80 bezocht door surfers en is tegenwoordig een plek waar mensen naartoe gaan om in contact te komen met het tropische klimaat en de gemiddelde temperatuur van 27 graden;

De surfschool biedt aan iedereen die wil leren surfen een programma met 6 dagen surfles met ervaren instructeurs die zich aanpassen aan jouw surfniveau, op onze dagelijkse keuze van prachtige surfstranden. Elke les bestaat uit ongeveer 4 uur op het strand, de voorbereidingstijd van het hoofdkwartier en de tripjes van en naar het strand niet meegerekend, en in kleine groepen van hetzelfde niveau met een gegarandeerde minimumratio van 1 instructeur per 3 studenten, om je maximale individuele leervorderingen te geven tijdens je surfcursus. Daarnaast leer je meer over golven, getij, deining, stromingen, pieken, regels, surftaal enzovoort in onze complete Surfhandleiding die je per e-mail ontvangt.

Houd er rekening mee dat we een minimum van 4 surfdagen vereisen (de vrije zondagen niet meegerekend, noch de aankomst- en vertrekdata om conflicten met vluchtschema’s te vermijden), omdat we van mening zijn dat slechts 4 dagen al een erg kort aantal lessen is om echt iets te leren vanaf het begin of zelfs om iets te corrigeren, en daarom is dit onze ondergrens voor het accepteren van een cursusduur om goed werk van onze kant te ontwikkelen.

Om het leersucces nog verder te versnellen, worden de surflessen van maandag tot vrijdag gefilmd met digitale apparatuur door onze cameraman. De video wordt bekeken en geanalyseerd tijdens seminars (maandag t/m vrijdag) die meestal plaatsvinden op het hoofdkantoor van de surfschool direct na de praktijkles en gemiddeld 1 tot 1,5 uur duren. Deze seminars worden gegeven door een van de instructeurs die commentaar geeft op de golven en correcties aanbrengt en individuele doelen stelt voor de volgende dag.

In 3 days we were already taking our first waves. Itacaré is a paradise. Many wonderful beaches, one more beautiful than the other, especially the one that we had the lessons. I’ve been to about 10 surf schools around the world and this one is by far the best! They follow a very clear system and training approach that has been proven to produce results. You meet at 7 am at school and drive to the beach. You carry your own board on a beautiful walk (10-15 minutes) and then you wax and apply your sunscreen. Right after 8 am you start a ~20-minute stretch and another ~20-minute floor training. Around 9 am you leave for the first hour of surfing and then come back for brunch. You go again around 10:30 / 11:00 for another hour of surfing before heading back. When you arrive at school, you go to class to watch videos of your surfing and find out what you’re doing well and what needs improvement. The videos are extremely helpful as you really understand your mistakes as you can see whereas most other schools don’t offer this. You finish sometime between 1 pm and 2 pm depending on how many people are in the class. Commit to at least 4 days to really see the benefit. If you persist and commit, you can surf alone after about 10 lessons. Do not do more than 2 consecutive days as it is very tiring. …read more minder lezen
