Frequently Asked Questions

How to get to the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil?

There are a few ways to visit the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil, but the most convenient one is to fly to Manaus, the capital of Amazonas.

From the US, travelers can choose between two different direct flights, one from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and one from Miami (MIA)Bogotá (BOG) and Panama (PTY) are also great options for Americans and Europeans to land in Manaus as soon as the plane hits Brazilian territory. Otherwise, layovers in São Paulo (GRU), Rio de Janeiro (GIG) or Brasília (BSB) are to be expected.

The Amazon in Mato Grosso and Pará are also amazing vacation spots to explore nature.

When is the best time to visit the Amazon Rainforest?

Although the Amazon is considered a year-round destination, the period from January to September offers the best climate conditions because it avoids the peak of Dry Season at the same time that there are good hiking trail options and enough water for aquatic activities.

Speaking of those, the Wet Season (December to May) is great for people who want to enjoy the Amazonian rivers by kayaking, canoeing, swimming and exploring the flooded forest. Rainstorms are common, but they don’t last too long.

The Dry Season (June to November) is popular because it usually allows both water and land-based activities. However, it’s important to notice that extended droughts are becoming more frequent, especially from October to December. This causes low water levels and limited access to a few areas and itineraries, but things tend to get better by January.

They are knowledgable, skilled, considerate and incredibly friendly and warm people. I felt welcomed by all of the staff at the lodge. The chefs are excellent - the food has the feel of home cooking but from the home of a very skilled chef! It was delicious. I am vegetarian and there was plenty for me to eat from the usual buffet spread plus chef always made me something extra. I think vegans would be happy too. We went during early December and the dry period hadn’t really ended yet. Waterways were open but the river was low. There wasn’t a load of mammals as there wasn’t fruit on the trees yet but thanks to our guide and Captain (who were determined to help us see as much as possible) we still saw a few monkeys, including night monkeys, pink and grey dolphin and a red squirrel. We listened to the sounds of howler monkeys in the distance during a sunrise excursion and we saw signs of bigger mammals in the rainforest during a trek. The birdlife was amazing - toucans and macaws flying overhead and an abundance of vulture, heron, kingfisher, hawks and countless more swooping closer by. There were also loads of cayman and bats around at night on the river. The lodge itself is beautiful – well kept and the facilities are great (of course not comparable to a hotel given the location mind). I was well protected from mosquitos in the net over my bed and didn’t see a single creepy crawly in my hut over 3 days. If you’re thinking about booking here just do it! I already want to go back. …read more read less

The lodge has a familial, community spirit where all staff are very kind, friendly, attentive, helpful and good-willed. Our tour guide was brilliant, very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna - including the many birds, caiman, monkeys and dolphins that we saw on our trip. Similarly, our boat driver was very skilled as a boatman, carefully navigating the river when the water level was very low. We visited during the end of the ‘dry season’ and what should’ve been the start of the ‘wet season’, however it didn’t rain before or during our stay. As a result, our itinerary changed drastically as many of the smaller channels nearby were completely dried up - including the lake in the Lodge which was a shame. Despite this, the Lodge did everything they could to make the most of our stay and host a variety of activities including kayaking, boat trips, a jungle walk, caiman spotting, sunrise boat trip, and even a BBQ in the boat driver’s home! The rooms were very comfortable (we stayed in the rooms made from wood) though there were a few creepy crawlies each night and a gecko in the bathroom one evening. But, it’s all part of the experience! Finally, the food was great and there was a wide variety of choices for each meal every day! As a vegetarian, it was more difficult for me as the options were usually chicken and fish - but, the lodge made a special effort for me and cooked a few dishes with soya meat alternative & egg-based dishes. Thank you for a fantastic experience! We would highly recommend to all :) …read more read less

The water in the river was super low and there was no swimming, but that was just the season that we were there. Even during the dry season, though, all of the excursions were great. There was a lot of variety to the activities and we enjoyed all of them. It was a perfect mix of interesting activities and relaxing in the jungle time. Our guide, was phenomenal and spoke perfect English. One thing that didn't really register before is just how far out the lodge is. It is a solid 3+ hours to get there from Manaus. Several of the excursions were back on the main part of the river which took almost hour by boat to reach. Not that any of that is bad, but be prepared to ride back and forth on the river quite a bit. If I was back in the area I wouldn't hesitate at all to stay in this Lodge again. …read more read less
