Jalapão Nature Tour
Especially for those who have little time but want to experience the best of this unique State Park in Tocantins, the Jalapão Tour is an adventure that combines nature and local culture in an itinerary outside of mass tourism. This is an experience in which you get to see how locals live and how they interact with nature and at the same time you will go through corners of our great wilderness.
This is an off-the-beaten-track experience, for those who are looking for a spirited, fun, meaningful, warmly connected, and unforgettable trip. Only accessible by 4×4 vehicles, you will take the road less traveled to explore landscapes of big walls with general fields, which hide rivers with small beaches, oases, waterfalls and fervedouros (boilers), the latter one of the exclusive attractions of Jalapão Tour, wells of warm water with very fine sand in suspension that prevents you from sinking.
We invite you to surrender to our Cerrado! An inhospitable place where we are disconnected and isolated to realize the importance of simplicity with every step taken, despite the effort that this itinerary requires of us, we are always rewarded for every drop of sweat spilled. Day 1 - Palmas / Morro Vermelho / Cathedral Hill
The day starts at 7:15 am with the transfer that will take you from the capital of Maranhão, Palmas, to São Félix, where we will have lunch and prepare ourselves for our first highlight of this trip, the Morro Vermelho (Red Mountain), a place which fascinates visitors. There, the attraction of nature makes you feel content, and renewed and that explains why everyone is so delighted with it. The walk to the highest point is easy, but in a small part, you have to climb a wall to access the hill. This climb is done by ropes that were placed there by the locals.

Jalapão is known for its daily shows at sunset. The intense gold takes over the dunes, and the sand takes on a new hue and brings even more beauty to the place. On this first day, we will contemplate the sunset during the Cathedral Crossing, we will make a small drive to the starting point of the walk, to Cathedral Hill, approximately 4.5 km. This is a climbing and walking activity that must be challenging. The name is due to the appearance of a cathedral format with impressive visuals. Today the overnight will be in São Félix, where we will have dinner and a comfortable rest.
Day 2 - Trekking / Boa Esperança Community / Glamping Hotel
After a well-served typical breakfast, we will leave early in the morning, around 6:30 AM, to explore a vast virgin territory in 4x4 vehicles until the beginning of our 6-hour trail, an 11 km path through the scenario of Jalapão. The goal of the day is to reach the Boa Esperança Community, a quilombola territory in the city of Mateiros, a non-touristy place, where the locals will appreciate your presence and the fact that you choose to visit their area and financially support their communities.
In the afternoon we will check in at Glamping Refúgio Coração do Jalapão, our simple accommodations like bungalows with balconies, where we will have lunch and also have a free afternoon to choose between one of these optional activities, which must be scheduled in advance (price not included), like:
Rafting class II and III - A 10 km route of this adventure sport that is done in the water stretches of rivers with an inflatable boat or raft. At this rafting, there will be a descent through the Soninho River.
Glamping's exclusive Fervedouro - This beautiful Fervedouro is part of the Glamping Refugio Coração do Jalapão and is exclusive to those who chose to stay with them.
Kayaking - This is a two-hour guided activity, a 5 km route on the Soninho river, starting from Glamping to the Fervedouro Jatobá.
Day 3 - Fervedouro Buritizinho / Fervedouro's Crossing / Meeting of the Rivers / Mumbuca Community / Formiga Waterfall / Mateiros
A day full of adventures! Our first highlight is the Fervedouro Buritizinho, The source of this Fervedouro has high pressure and it is very difficult to sink even with someone else pushing you down. With a unique spring, this Fervedouro is ideal for those who want to feel intensely the fluctuation so famous in this rare phenomenon of nature. Then, we will start our 12 km hike through the woods and incredible views, bordering the river during its route to reach Fervedouro Buritizinho, a boiler with extremely transparent and intense blue water, one of the most beautiful in Jalapão.
After a reinforced snack, we will continue our 8-km path towards Formiga Waterfall, considered one of the best in Jalapão, with its emerald green waters that provide a relaxing and refreshing bath for the body. Also one of the most desired and beautiful for bathing, diving, and floating. At the end of the day, a transfer will be waiting to take us to Mateiros, where we will have dinner and overnight.

Day 4 - Espírito Santo Mountain Range / Dunes / Pixivo Beach / Ponte Alta
We'll start our last day early, at 4 AM, with the ascent to the Espírito Santo Mountain Range viewpoint and enjoy a spectacular sunrise. We will climb 200 meters and walk another 600 meters so that we can watch the sunrise and later continue for another 3 km to reach the top of the mountain, where we can contemplate the natural beauty of the erosion in the space.
Then, we will make a cautious technical descent of 7 km down the mountain range of Espírito Santo until we reach the famous golden dunes of Jalapão, a beautiful scenery with golden orange sands, surrounded by mountains and springs to enjoy this authentic landscape of the jalapoeira region. After a snack, we will chill and bathe in the waters of Pixico beach, a river beach, until it's lunchtime in Mr. Adélio's Restaurant Curicaca, to eat some dishes of the traditional cuisine of Jalapão. A transfer will be waiting to take us to Ponte Alta city, where we will leave Jalapão feeling revitalized and filled with new experiences.

The inns where I stayed are very cozy and clean. The route is long, and the roads are a little bumpy but they use the right car so it’s easy. All of them are excellent guides, from describing the cerrado ecosystem to the best way to enjoy each attraction, always focusing on people’s safety. Without a doubt, my best trip of its kind
Without a doubt, my best trip of its kind. The landscapes, the script, the organization. Even the rain couldn’t stop it. A strong point of the trip: the concept of sustainable tourism with the integration of the local community into the tourist itinerary. The guides’ concern is to keep the place preserved. Respect for the residents of the region. Weak point: experiencing firsthand the unwillingness of politicians to give the bare minimum in terms of health and infrastructure for the region’s population. Getting sick or having an accident in Jalapão can cost you your life or a limb. About the organization, I only have praise. All partners were great with us. Our guide, a special being, is always very concerned. He rushed to help us, knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the place and gave us lessons. We will certainly return, perhaps on another version of the tour, with even more adventures and in a less rainy season, although it did not disturb us at all, on the contrary, fewer people, and more tranquility.

The trip was just wonderful. The guide accompanied us on all tours, with clear explanations, awakening our ecological awareness. A lot of movement and unique landscapes
We bought the Jalapão – Travessias Jalapoeiras package, and I highly recommend it to anyone who can’t stand sightseeing sitting for hours in a vehicle. This package is intended for those who are in good physical condition and heat resistant. we had walks, rafting, diving etc, with a lot of movement and unique landscapes. The hiking days had an average of 13km/day and were done under a lot of sun (so, for those who don’t have good resistance to heat, I don’t recommend it), but for those who managed to do it, it was a spectacle, with very beautiful views and little explored in the most tourist circuits. Special mention should be made of the ascent to the Serra do Espirito Santo and subsequent descent into the dunes of Jalapão. Very beautiful view and unusual scenery. Special thanks to our guide who made the trip special at all times.
