Panoramica

Cinque giorni a piedi per attraversare da parte a parte il Parco Nazionale dei Lençóis Maranhenses, dalle barche di Barreirinhas alla sabbia di Santo Amaro. In mezzo ci sono dune bianche a perdita d’occhio, lagune d’acqua piovana in cui ti butti a fine tappa e due oasi abitate: Baixa Grande e Queimada dos Britos.

È un trekking nel deserto solo all’apparenza: la sabbia bianca si riempie d’acqua piovana e le lagune restano piene per mesi. Lungo il percorso incontri le famiglie che vivono dentro il parco, ascolti le loro storie e capisci come funziona il turismo di base comunitaria che protegge tutto questo. Dormi in amaca sotto un cielo senza luci artificiali e sali in barca per i tratti che a piedi non si coprono.

  • Cinque giorni di cammino tra natura e cultura nei Lençóis Maranhenses.

Itinerario

Giorno 1

Barreirinhas / Pequenos Lençóis / Atins / Canto dos Atins

  • Partenza8:30 da Barreirinhas
  • Barca32 km · ~2 h (Pequenos Lençóis, Vassouras e Mandacaru)
  • Cammino8 km · 2–3 h fino a Canto dos Atins

Un mezzo ti passa a prendere alle 8:30 a Barreirinhas (circa 4 ore e 237 km da São Luís) per il giro in barca dentro l’APA dei Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses, con sosta nei villaggi di Vassouras e Mandacaru per il turismo di base comunitaria. Arrivi ad Atins, villaggio di spiaggia, per il pranzo e resti lì fino alle 15:00. Poi cammini 8 km (2–3 ore) in un campo di dune fino a Canto dos Atins, con bagni nelle lagune e il tramonto davanti. Si dorme in amaca al lodge.

Giorno 2

Canto dos Atins → oasi di Baixa Grande

  • Cammino6 km · partenza alle 7:00 · transfer 4x4 fino alla regione del Rio Negro

Colazione alle 6:30 e partenza alle 7:00. Un 4×4 porta il gruppo lungo il litorale dei Lençóis Maranhenses fino alla regione del Rio Negro, dove comincia il cammino: durante il tragitto si aprono i paesaggi della costa e delle dune. Da lì cammini circa 6 km fino alla comunità di Baixa Grande, con soste per il bagno nelle lagune, e arrivi prima dell’ora di pranzo.

Dopo il riposo e il pranzo si torna sulle dune per altri bagni, e a fine giornata guardi il tramonto da uno degli scenari più aperti del parco. Questa è una delle zone abitate più remote dei Lençóis Maranhenses: ci vivono soltanto sei famiglie. Pranzo, cena e pernottamento sono a casa di una di loro, con la tiquira, l’acquavite di manioca del posto, per chi ha voglia di provarla.

Giorno 3

Baixa Grande → oasi di Queimada dos Britos

Colazione alle 4:30 e partenza alle 5:00 per 12 km di cammino (4–5 ore circa): attraversi le dune alla prima luce e guadi il ruscello del Rio Negro, con un’alba che si accende alle spalle e il bagno in alcune delle lagune più belle del parco. Arrivi a Queimada dos Britos verso le 10:30 per un pranzo fatto in casa, riposi all’ombra e nel tardo pomeriggio torni sulle dune per altri bagni e per il tramonto. Cena e notte a casa di una famiglia del posto.

Queimada dos Britos → Vila de Betânia

Si parte alle 3:00 da Queimada dos Britos per 5–7 ore di cammino (18 km) fino alla Vila de Betânia, con una sosta per l’alba e un tuffo rinfrescante in laguna. Il pranzo è a Betânia, nel Maranhão più remoto: un villaggio affacciato sul Rio Alegre e circondato da lagune fin dove arriva lo sguardo.
