Cinque giorni per attraversare i Lençóis a piedi, da un capo all’altro del Parco Nazionale dei Lençóis Maranhenses: il paesaggio del Brasile e la cultura del Maranhão nello stesso viaggio. Lungo il percorso raggiungi le oasi di Baixa Grande e Queimada dos Britos, cammini su dune bianche a perdita d’occhio e ti fermi a nuotare nelle lagune di acqua piovana, con il tramonto a chiudere ogni giornata.

Dentro questo deserto del Brasile vivono le famiglie che ti ospitano: ascolti le loro storie e scopri il turismo sostenibile che protegge questo patrimonio naturale. Dormi in amaca sotto un cielo di stelle e alcuni tratti li percorri in barca, il modo più diretto di stare a contatto con la natura.

Itinerario

Giorno 1

Barreirinhas / Pequenos Lençóis / Atins / Canto dos Atins

  • Partenzaore 8:30 da Barreirinhas
  • Barca32 km · ~2 ore (Pequenos Lençóis, Vassouras e Mandacaru)
  • Cammino8 km · 2–3 ore fino a Canto dos Atins

Alle 8:30 un veicolo ti passa a prendere a Barreirinhas, che dista circa 4 ore e 237 km da São Luís. Si prosegue in barca dentro l’APA dei Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses, con sosta nei villaggi di Vassouras e Mandacaru per il turismo di base comunitaria. Il pranzo è ad Atins, paese di mare dove resti fino alle 15:00. Poi 8 km di cammino, 2 o 3 ore, in un campo di dune fino a Canto dos Atins: bagni nelle lagune, il sole che cala sulla sabbia e la notte in amaca nell’alloggio.

Giorno 2

Canto dos Atins → Oasi di Baixa Grande

  • Cammino6 km · 2–3 ore · partenza ore 7:00

Colazione alle 6:30 e partenza alle 7:00. Un 4×4 porta il gruppo lungo la costa dei Lençóis Maranhenses fino alla zona del Rio Negro, dove inizia il cammino. Durante il tragitto vedi il paesaggio della costa e le prime dune della regione.

Dal Rio Negro cammini per circa 6 km fino alla comunità di Baixa Grande, con soste per nuotare nelle lagune lungo il sentiero. Arrivi prima dell’ora di pranzo.

Dopo il riposo e il pranzo si torna tra le dune per altri bagni nelle lagune. Nel tardo pomeriggio arriva il momento del tramonto: questo è uno dei punti migliori dei Lençóis Maranhenses per guardare la giornata finire sulla sabbia bianca.

Pranzo, cena e pernottamento sono a casa di una famiglia originaria di Baixa Grande: turismo di base comunitaria nel senso più concreto del termine.

Giorno 3

Baixa Grande → Oasi di Queimada dos Britos

  • Cammino12 km · 4–5 ore · partenza ore 5:00

Colazione alle 4:30 e partenza alle 5:00 per 12 km di cammino, circa 4 o 5 ore: attraversi le dune alle prime luci e guadi il ruscello del Rio Negro, con l’alba sulla sabbia e bagni in alcune delle lagune più belle del parco. Verso le 10:30 raggiungi l’oasi di Queimada dos Britos, dove ti aspettano un pranzo fatto in casa e il riposo all’ombra. Nel tardo pomeriggio si torna tra le dune per altri bagni e per il tramonto; cena e notte sono a casa di una famiglia del posto.

Queimada dos Britos → Vila de Betânia

Partenza alle 3:00 per 18 km di cammino, tra 5 e 7 ore, fino al villaggio di Betânia, con una sosta per guardare l’alba e un bagno rinfrescante in laguna. Il pranzo è a Betânia, un paese particolare, affacciato sul Rio Alegre e circondato da lagune a perdita d’occhio.

Vila de Betânia → Santo Amaro

L’ultimo giorno comincia alle 5:30 con 15 minuti di barca lungo il Rio Alegre, poi 12 km a piedi, circa 5 ore, fino a Santo Amaro. Lungo la strada ti fermi per nuotare, riposare e vedere l’ultima alba del viaggio. A Santo Amaro arrivi verso le 10:00, e lì la traversata finisce.
