About the adventure

Smoke Waterfall, in Portuguese “Cachoeira da Fumaça”, is one of the Brazilian highest waterfalls, with 380m height. The cross Capão – Lençóis through the Smoke Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and classic trek of Chapada Diamantina National Park.

Day by day

 

Day 1 - Capão Valley / Smoke Waterfall (top) / Monkey’s hill / Monkey’s cave
The Smoke Waterfall trekking starts from the Capão Valley, at first we climb about 40 minutes to the viewpoint overlooking the Capão Valley. After, we walk checking the flowers of a unique ecosystem until reaching Smoke Waterfall over the top. After a stop to enjoy the view and have a picnic, we go down about 3 hours to Monkey’s Hill until the Monkey’ cave, where we going to have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2 – Monkey’s Cave / Smoke Waterfall (underneath) / Capivara Waterfall
After breakfast, we will walk about 2 hours to the pool of Smoke Waterfall along with one of the most preserved trails in the park. After a shower at the waterfall, we will return by the canyon to the Monkey’s Cave where we will pick up our backpacks at the camp and we will go down about 1h30min to the Capivara Waterfall, where we will set our camping.

Day 3 - Capivara Waterfall / Palmital Waterfall / Poison Mountain / Ribeirão River / Lençóis
Leaving the camp after breakfast, we head to Palmital Waterfall where we can have a refreshing bath and get to the Poison Mountain until reaching the Ribeirão River that is going to lead us to the city of Lençóis.

Requirements & Additional Information

  • Good physical condition to face some challenges: steep climbs and descents, taking off shoes to cross-rivers, climb over some rocks, walking long distances.
  • Inform the guide in case of dependence on medicines or health conditions
  • There is no internet or phone signal during the trekking, perfect to give yourself a break and fully connect with nature.

    "Incroyable aventure avec Douglas"
    Notre séjour dans la chapada fut un véritable succès grâce à notamment notre super guide Douglas Castro, fervent défenseur de l'environnement et de ses merveilles. Dans le respect de la nature et des autochtones, nous avons pu passer 3 jours de bonheur à l'écart de tout contact avec le reste de l'humanité, perdu au milieu de cette végétation luxuriante.
