About the adventure

This Pantanal Jaguar Tours takes you to the best wildlife reserves of the Northern Pantanal in combination with a safari by land and boat in Porto Jofre, a city on the banks of the rich and wild Cuiabá river, the place of the largest concentration of jaguars in the world.

We will travel by car through the Transpantaneira road, the only road in North Pantanal, which makes the place even more original and wild and the first presentation of Pantanal. From inside the vehicle you will already see many animals, such as alligators, capybaras, tuiuiús, anacondas, and pampas deer.

Our Pantanal Jaguar Tours will also take place along the waters of the Cuiabá River, a beautiful river that crosses the Pantanal, responsible for producing the largest daily number of eggs of migratory species, and therefore also very popular for fishing. From the boat, observing the animals, especially the jaguar, is an easy mission, with highlights also including ocelots, tapirs, hyacinth, macaws, jabiru storks, anteaters, and giant otters.

About Pantanal

The word Pantanal, had its origin as a reference to the swamp, for having the largest floodplain in the world. The water in the Pantanal is a decisive factor in the balance of fauna and flora. During the summer floods, it is estimated that 180 million liters of water reach the biome plain. All this water accumulates in the plain, forming flooded areas and attracting countless species of animals. Pantanal is an area of approximately 150,000 km² that shelters incredible biodiversity of species of flora and fauna and has already received, by UNESCO, the title of World Biosphere Reserve.

This ecological patrimony, inhabited by countless species of mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish, is complemented by exuberant vegetation, translated into movement of shapes, colors, and sounds, proving to be a beautiful spectacle. The fauna is quite rich and diverse. However, there are many endangered species, and sustainable tourism is an alternative for the region's economy, which has been deforested for livestock activity.

    Top of the line

    September 29, 2022

We had the Savanah extension along with the ten-night Jaguar Safari and they are a must together, lots to learn on both excursions, gorgeous scenery, had a nice snorkel down a spring-fed creek, two actually, surprised to c water so clear in the Pantanal. The views and parrots, Canarys, and predators were a blast to spot and then get the low down from our guide. Could not believe how close we got to the Jaguars on several occasions, saw at least 15 different Jaguars, and many over again, you learn their family tree and relations, why they do what they do, a memorable experience to say the least. Then there’s the food, plan on gaining weight it is so good, thanks again Leen and Andre, Brad and Annie…

    Way better than the Amazon

    September 19, 2022

We’ve been on many wildlife and nature adventures in Africa, Patagonia, the Amazon, Iceland, Nepal, Alaska, Costa Rica, Malaysia and numerous others. This ranks as absolutely one of the best. We had many long interactions watching jaguars hunt/kill, mate and fight over prey. Even saw adorable cubs. Additionally, we saw beautiful tropical birds up close and personal – toucans, macaws, parrots plus all the marsh species – herons, egrets, ibis, etc. Leen put together an amazing agenda where we experienced wildlife and landscapes in numerous ecosystems. Our guide Marcos Ardevino was superb – biologist extraordinaire – extremely engaging and informative. The Pantanal is a hidden treasure of Brazil and Pantanal Jaguar Safaris a fabulous way to experience it!

    Exceeded My Expectations

    September 1, 2022

Where do I begin? From the moment the guide picked us up at the airport I relaxed, knowing that we were in good hands. He catered not only to our 17-year-old son (an avid photographer who had been researching wildlife in the Pantanal for some time) but also to my husband and me (who were novices, along for the ride). The guide is educated as a biologist, and with years of guiding experience, is extremely knowledgeable about the Pantanal region and wildlife. We learned a great deal from him. More importantly, he helped us find SO MANY amazing animals and guided us in a fun and safe manner. We are so thankful we chose Pantanal Jaguar Safaris for this once in a lifetime trip.

    Fabulous Visit to the Pantanal

    August 15, 2022

This was a trip of a lifetime. The itinerary was very well thought out and the experience was extraordinary. We are primarily interested in experiencing and photographing wildlife. This safari was perfect for our desires with multitudes of birds, mammals and reptiles. A large number of Jaguar sightings was very thrilling. Our guide was knowledgeable, personable, and had a great sense of humor. We we had a lot of laughs and teasing with him on the trip. As I caught Covid and had to go to isolation, the guide looked after my wife, let her use his phone to call me and checked up on me every day until I could re-join. The lodging ranged from upscale to fish camp basic but every location was perfect for our wildlife adventure. The food was always good and plentiful. All of the staff was helpful and pleasant. On the last day of the trip, the co-owner guided us in the Chapada and even hosted us for lunch. It was a wonderful experience and will be a lasting memory.

    Extremely knowledgable & throughly professional

    July 13, 2022

This is my second trip with Pantanal Jaguar Safaris. In a place like the Pantanal having a great boat driver and a guide who knows the behavior of the cats (or any of the other animals there for that matter) and hence is able to get you into just the perfect spot to witness the action up front is very crucial. This is where their team at Pantanal Jaguar Safaris have a clear edge over everyone else (often much to the disdain of the others on the river). One most note that the Pantanal as place does tend to get crowded with boats and tourists especially in the high season and positioning becomes a key aspect that makes or breaks a trip. Of course while a lot of it is just a matter of luck since it in the wild after all having someone who understands these felines just helps better your odds. Besides this they are extremely courteous and professional and I would highly recommend them any one who wants to experience the Pantanal. I for one will certainly be back!

    Wilderness Tour

    June 10, 2022

I, my brother and my sister-in-law went on this wilderness tour. We were originally booked to go in October 2020, but the pandemic intervened and we were eventually able to make the trip in June 2022 after several postponements. It was well worth the wait. We had many jaguar sightings at Porto Jofre, including a caiman kill and watching a mother with two cubs, playing on the river bank. We also saw giant otters, capybara, caiman, tapir and many different species of birds. The Pantanal is a truly unique ecosystem and a fascinating place to visit.

The trip was very well organized with excellent transport, a high standard of accommodation and great food throughout. It is very “full on” with early starts and late finishes, and it gets very hot in the middle of the day, so perhaps building in one or two more restful afternoons would be good, but we really enjoyed the whole experience and I would recommend Pantanal Jaguar Safari to anyone wishing to visit the area.
