Have you ever heard of Jalapão Brazil State Park? Disconnect yourself from the virtual world and connect yourself with nature, in a magnificent experience in the heart of Brazil. Located in Tocantins, Jalapão has the largest untouched portion of the Brazilian savannah, with beautiful deserted beaches, rivers, waterfalls, canyons, and turquoise waters. Such beauty in the midst of an exuberant fauna and rarely seen in other places such as jaguars, wolves, deer, armadillos, macaws, and tapirs.

In this adventure, you will visit Jalapão and the Serra Geral do Tocantins, enjoying its main attractions, its valuable culture and exuberant nature such as Formiga Waterfall, Encantado Canyon Waterfall, Lagoa do Japones to name a few.

 

 

We will meet the hospitable Jalapenses, taste their delicious homemade food, and watch how the artifacts made of "Capim Dourado" (Golden grass), a trademark of Jalapão, are produced. Day by day

 

Day 1 - Palmas / Mateiros - Canyon Suçuapara and Rafting at Buriti Pelado

We will start our displacement from Palmas at 7 am, which will be 360 km of road, 150 km of asphalt, and 110 km of land. Estimated travel time of 5 hours, we will make a stop at Canion Suçuapara to stretch the legs. Then we will proceed to our snack at Mr. Antonio's Farm.

After a short rest, we will have the rafting instructions to start the first Jalapoeira crossing, the crossing of the waters, a 25 km descent, passing by rapids class IV to the beach of Buriti Pelado, where we will make our camping and dinner. A deserted place, excellent for the admiration of the stars and a bonfire to share the experiences of the day.

Day 2 - Velha crossing - Cachoeira Velha and Rafting
On the second day, we leave early (at 8 am) to do the final stretch of the rafting, and we will finish with a flourish, presenting all the strength of the Novo River, taking a bath in the Cachoeira da Velha. On this day we traveled a section of 5 km that shows the beauty of a river with its beaches, crystal clear waters, and a preserved forest. We will do the most exciting part, rapids class IV, and finish on the beach of Rio Novo. At about 11:30 am we will have a snack and after a brief rest, we will walk the first crossing on foot, Travessia da Velha, a walk of approximately 13km, passing through clean fields and paths, until we arrive at Jalapão Ecolodge, with an estimated time of 3 hours of active walking. On arrival, we will refresh ourselves in the water of the Soninho river. We will sleep early since the activities start at 4 am the next day.

Day 3 - Catedral crossing  and Soninho crossing
On the third day, we will enjoy the sunrise at the Cathedral Crossing, we will make a small drive to the starting point of the walk, to Cathedral Hill, approximately 4.5 km. So we will wake up at 4 am and start the walk to the top of the hill. After the descent, we will continue to São Félix where we will make our check-in at the Pousada and lunch.

 

 

After a short rest, around 15h, we will start the crossing of the river Soninho, a walk of about 8 km that passes through the Fervedouros do Alecrim and Fervedouro Bela Vista. After enjoying the Fervedouro we will return to Pousada for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 - Fervedouros crossing
After breakfast we will continue towards Mateiros, we will visit the Fervedouro Macaúbas from there we will be driven by natives to the Fervedouro Encontro das Águas by 4 km trail in the middle of the Cerrado. We will enjoy the bath at the Meeting of the rivers Formiga and Soninho, where we can notice the difference in temperatures and colors of its waters. Then we will do another 4 km walk to the Fervedouro Buritizinho.

After a short rest, we will follow Formiga Waterfall, a trail of approximately 6 km, considered one of the most beautiful in Jalapão, with its emerald green waters that provide a relaxing and refreshing bath for the body. One of the most desired and beautiful for bathing, diving, and floating.

Day 5 - Serra do Espírito Santo crossing
On that day we will start early to climb to the viewpoint of the Serra do Espírito Santo to enjoy a spectacular sunrise. Then we will have coffee with stories at Dona Abenita's Bar. Then we will visit the Jalapão Dunes, beautiful scenery with golden orange sands, surrounded by mountains and paths to enjoy this authentic landscape of the jalapoeira region.

Soon after the visit to the Dunes, we will visit a little beach on the Novo River where we will be able to take a bath in the Novo River and have lunch at Mr. Adélio's Curicaca restaurant in the Novo River Community. After the rest, we will continue to Ponte Alta for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 - Encantado canyon crossing
We will leave towards the Enchanted Canyon, but not without first getting to know another postcard of the region, the Pierced Stone, a huge sandstone sculpted by wind and rain. Then we will go to Encantado Canyon, a place of rare and unique beauty, at some times of the year there are more than five waterfalls that can be seen from the same place, we will take a walk inside the Canyon for about 1.5km. We will have lunch at the farm, with Dona Rosa's cooking, where we will enjoy delicious homemade food, after a short rest we will return to Ponte Alta, scheduled to arrive at 6 pm.
